jammed spare tire winch assembly

Used my spare tire lowering winch once and jammed it. It will not lower (minus tire) I have a Ford 350 SD. Any ideas on how to free it?? thanks

I will never make the mistake ,again , of winching it up without the tire. I put the flat tire in my bed to have repaired

The cable has probably unspooled enough to jam it up. You are probably going to have to climb under and work with it while someone else lets it down. JC

If the cable has unwound inside the winch assembly, there is typically no way to free it. If you truck is still under warranty, take it back to the dealer, they should replace it for free. The same thing happened to my last F350 and the dealer replaced it under warranty.
