Jacobsen (who bought \'em)

As a follow up to dummy's thread, I was wondering if anyone knew what happened to Jacobsen. Heard they were bought out by someone else and then that someone else may have gone down the tubes....but, not sure.

I have an older Jacobsen electric start walk behind mower. Mower is in good shape but I need a new rechargeable battery pack. I can't seem to find a dealer who stocks parts for these mowers. Anyone know where I might go to obtain parts for old Jacobsens?

Re: Jacobsen (who bought \'em)

Bob, my dad had a Jacobsen push mower when I was young. Thing was great, real light and the handle folded quickly to stash in the trunk. We'd drive it in the car to the other side of the property to trim around trees.

At that time, I think Jacobsen and LawnBoy were related. Can't remember exactly and it may be different now. If all you need is a battery pack, try one of those battery stores. They can usually match about anything /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Jacobsen (who bought \'em)

Thanks Rob. But, I'm going to be dumb here. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gifWhich battery stores are you suggesting? Only ones I know of sell car batteries and smaller ones for riding tractors, motorcycles, boats, etc. I've seen nothing for push mowers.

Would love to get a replacement as this is/was a great mower. I believe it still works if only I could get a battery pack.

You may want to try the Jacobsen owners club website. I feel that you will get the info that you need. Try Jacobsen Owners club in your search engine.

We've got a chain in our area called Batteries Plus. They carry everything from watch batteries to forklift batteries. They provided a substitute for my bicycle headlight battery when it died but was no longer available /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Jacobsen (who bought \'em)

JD was involved somehow, but parts are difficult to come by. The commercial division is still around, but not related and no help with service or parts. This site is pretty good..

Have had a Jac GT14H for 20 yrs. Runs like a top.

Re: Jacobsen (who bought \'em)

Thanks for the link. I'll check them out. These old Jacobsen push mowers are fine mowers if only I could get parts for them. It'll be a sad day if I have to discard this push mower when I know the only thing I need is a new battery pack. Nothing else is wrong with it.

Re: Jacobsen (who bought \'em)

If all you need is a battery pack, check with batteries plus or some such place. Surely you can find a compatible battery.

Re: Jacobsen (who bought \'em)

Bob, I'll echo the Batteries Plus suggestion. They advertise that if you take them your old battery, they can even make you a new one. I believe this applies to the multi-cell rechargable types. Perhaps they can assist you.

Re: Jacobsen (who bought \'em)

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm out of luck here. You guys are lucky who have a Batteries Plus store near you. I just visited their website, checked their store locater link, and found nearest store to me is in Concord , NH....about a 3 hour drive each way. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif No BatteriesPlus stores are located in NY, VT, MA, or CT.

It apppears I'll have to think of other reasons to make a trip to New Hampshire....maybe make several large expenditure purchases since they have no sales tax. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
