LS R3039
So I've pretty much locked down my choice for LS as my next tractor. Just trying to decide on a model now. I just did a quick test drive on a '14 model J2023, but I just found another dealer who has a new '13 J2030 that he just got in Nov/Dec. He quoted me $12,200 on a 14' model 2023 that he would have to order. He quoted the '13 model 2030 at $12,500 and acted like he'd be willing to work on the price of the 2030 instead of having me order the 2023.

My question is aside from the difference of HP, 23 vs 27, is one model better than the other? I know the '14 models have a bigger hydro pump and they also moved to the dual pedal system instead of the rocker system. My initial thoughts are that the bigger pump and dual pedals would be better in my situation instead of the bigger hp difference. I have a 20hp JD right now and it is plenty of power for what I need. I'm going to do go by this dealer and test the 2030 and see if they will come off the price much more for the 2030 they have in stock.

Also looks like the new 2023 has a loader capacity of 1270 lbs while the 2030 has 1150. So 120 lbs less loader capacity with the 2030. That's a lot more than I would have thought.

The 2014 should be the tier IV engine and may have a lot more environmental stuff on it than the 2013 year. Check out the differences and what kind of extra servicing might be required for the 2014 vs the 2013. Might be a pleasant surprise in that the less HP might be more net HP without all the smog junk.

I'll do some research on that. Thanks.

It's my understanding that tier IV requirements for 2014 only apply to engines that put out less than 19kw of power (less than 25hp)- so the 2023 should not have a bunch of tier IV emission compliance hardware. I think that is why LS discontinued the 2030 - at 27 hp it would have required expensive updates to exhaust system.

I was not aware of that. That's definitely good to know. So you're saying the 2023 or the 2030 would not be a Tier 4 engine?

That's my understanding- but you should verify with dealer or LS directly- The LS web site lists the 2023 engine as "tier IV interim" whatever that means- it doesn't say anything like that about the 2030- i suspect since the 2030 still has the single pedal HST they are all last year production and when they are gone- no more 2030- again check with dealer- I also think the 2023 "interim" engine may be just waiting for gov't approval as it has always been the same displacement as the 2030 and just a bit of fine tuning (I was told Turning up the injectors??) could bring it to 27 hp-- My problem is "a little knowledge is dangerous" let me know what you find out- hope I helped rather than confuse.

Neither the 2023 or the 2030 are Tier 4. The Tier 4 versions will be available this fall as the XJ-25.

Yeah, what does "interim" mean exactly in terms of actual changes to the engine?
