This time it's on the ROPS and apple trees thread, but I've seen it on several others. Members with 5, 10, 15 or more years since they signed up, but with few if any posts. Often less than 20 posts, sometimes less than 5. It isn't a problem, but it's a curiosity as to what is drawing them back after so many years.

I "lurked" on TBN for quite a while before my first post. I had questions but nobody wants to look real stupid. Finally, I started a thread. After that it all came easy. I think it's just a lot of folks are quite shy and don't want anybody to think they are asking stupid questions. A lot of new folks don't know that they can search for a topic and find answers from many previous threads.

Some are introverts, some are extroverts.

It could be that some of them joined looking for certain information and now they need to know something else.

Maybe it is tied to the same cycle as the Cicadas......every 17 years? Maybe a different life cycle depending on the type of tractor or oil used?

"Some are just verts". Yes, those who cherish the JD brand.

This is by design. We have automated emails going out 2x a week with trending threads from the past few days. This has been getting a lot of members to come back to the site... which is exactly what we were hoping would happen!

The Romex thread is becoming an example of why this is a bad idea. People are coming in and replying to the opening post without reading the rest of the thread. Their responses are out of place and not informed by posts further on.

We had a guy who owned a Yanmar some 15 years back then moved on. Last month he got another Yanmar and has returned.

Additionally, more people since the C19 ordeal have gone ahead and moved out of the cities to the country. My Bro-In-Law did this and the first thing after moving he asked, Hey, what tractor should I get and where to ask questions for it. :)

I've seen hints that they are only seeing the original post in an email and responding to that, which should not be happening. They should be required to come into the thread to be able to reply.

So the email blast campaign draws more posters, but lowers the quality of discussion. Hmm.

I also observed an unusual number of posters with low post counts. Some volunteering "help" contrary to others who seem more qualified, or rehashing topics already discussed and resolved.

Quantity is up and quality is down. Congratulations?

Not many has the time to waste to notice join date vs number of reply’s.
