As for how people survive in the cold... you do get used to it. I like it when it is cold enough that you breathe in through your nose and you can feel your sinuses freeze

On the other hand it gets much above 77F and I am useless, too dang hot.
It was cold here last night, nothing compared to what youse people up Nawth are having to endure, but 16 is COLD. Tuesday's forecast is 9 which we have only hit one other time since we moved to the country. The front that came through the night before last blew over 1/3 of a cord of wood I had split and stacked that day. That was a real strong wind. I went out yesterday and restacked the wood, and split another 1/6 of a cord before it got dark. It was below freezing when I was out working yesterday but I was warm enough with just some work pants, a T shirt and long sleeved shirt, work shoes, a knit hat and work gloves...
When I moved to NC from FL I FROZE even in buildings. I would wear long john tops and bottoms, heavy long sleeved shirts, heavy wool sweaters and a heavy wool jacket. I would sometimes wear the jacket in meetings because I was so danged cold. Course in the summer, everyone was complaining about the heat but I thought it was kinda cool outside.:laughing::laughing:
Now I have been acclimated to the NC weather and the only time I wear long johns is if I am going to be outside all day and not working really hard. I get the medium jacket out to wear only on the coldest days and I have not had to wear one of my heavy wool jackets in years nor have I put on one of my heavy wool sweaters. You do get used to the weather.
We heat the house with the wood stove and during a normal winter day we can keep the living room at 80. When the temps have a high in the 20s and lows in the single digits the wood stove can only keep the living room in the upper 70s.:laughing::laughing: Works for me but the wifey is part lizard and needs warm temperature.

I am sitting here in sweat pants/shirt and she has on long john top and bottoms, sweat pants/shirt and a jacket because the living room is 74.:laughing::laughing: The only time she is ever warm is in August.

Gots to get off my fanny and go outside and split some more wood...
Tomorrow it will rain and I am going to make Navy bean soup with ham from XMAS. :licking: Might make some whole grain bread too. :licking:
Later,
Dan
