It's Cold !

Southern Kansas here and supposed to have a chance to go below 0 tomorrow night...and we usually have lots of wind. When this happens you don't see many people outside.

I work with a guy that came from northern Wyoming. First time I met him he was wearing a short sleeve shirt and no coat when the temp was mid 20's. He just laughed and said this isn't cold.

He was right.
We are supposed to get about 5" of snow spread over the next 2 days with 30-50 mph winds out of the south. That will make life interesting for some people. I need to go out tomorrow morning about 11AM, so I will hit the remote for the block heater on the Heep about 7 and she should be fairly warm by then. When I start her up I will kick the tractor block heater on and it should be go to go by the time I get back.

-11F now supposed to -17 by morning. Never went above 2 degrees here all day today. I went out to plow 6" of snow from my 300 ft drive at noontime...the sun was shining. UPS delivery was due so had to do it. Wasn't too bad just a few wind gusts around 15 mph or so now and then. Good sorrel boots cheapo Walls insulated coveralls, helmet liner, vest and a hoodie good to go! But even with good gloves my fingers had enough after about an hour though. Just remember...don't shave right before you go out!

I never shave. If I was going to be working outside all day, then I have a pair of NOMEX insulated coveralls. The same ones the pipe layers wear.

There is something to that! My son loves the cold but he has a hairy back too.

-34C here this morning, w/o the windchill. If C and F aren't kissing at that point, they are at least holding hands !

Frostbite is a real concern. Need a decent breakdown kit in the car/truck. People need to be reminded that road salt doesn't do much at these temperatures - wish they'd get back to using sand instead.

Had to open 2 lanes this afternoon at -25 without the wind factor, and there was a good wind, I broke the chain on the snowblower , I was lucky to find it , but had to repair with a new link, couldn't use gloves to replace link , hands were freezing, but had to do it. Things seems to brake easier when it's that cold

High tomorrow will be -21. Yesterday, as the season's first official blizzard was ramping up, the truck pulled in with Santa's last drop: my new rear blade! Not getting lots of snow with this storm, but the wind is really moving stuff around so I may get to use the blade today (tomorrow will be too cold for any outside venture). Thanks Santa! (Amazon, 'minor cosmetic damage' half price and free shipping/Prime!). Now I'll have it coming and going?

Haven't fired them up yet, but I picked up a pair of Zippo Hand Warmers this Fall.

I figured I'd get 'em for getting stuck fixing stuff outdoors like Andre described, and recreational use. Reviews on Amazon were good.
