I have a 2007 Nissan 350Z that is a dedicated track car and I'm only running it about 3 times a year. I keep it in an open shed down at my cabin. I cannot keep the mice out of it. I am considering getting one of those used ISO containers to put it in. Two questions:

1.Can you open the doors of a car that is in one or would I have to climb out the window.

2. Are they mouse proof.

Thanks for any help on this.

My guess is, at 6' wide, opening the door would still be a challenge in an 8' wide container. Assuming 6" or less left on passengers side, and an 8" thick door, opening at rear of door might be around 1', but no room at front of door to move your legs in/out. Assuming no body width modifications, or tires. Sounds like a window climb, which isn't so bad. I read claims on forums that some are water tight, mouse proof, if in very good condition.

Definitely water tight, and I've never seen evidence of rodents over the past 25 years in my 40' container.
You may want to consider temperature and moisture though. I kept my previous tractor in the container for many years without issue, but some owners report humidity issues and very high temperatures. It was never an issue in my climate though.

Agree with this. You may need to climb out the car window. Do the math. The containers are rodent proof. They will need ventilation. My container floor molded - PIA to remedy. Roof turbines should work. Another plus is minimal dust but roof turbines may negate that...

Mine is mouse proof. It's also highly vented with massive holes that I cut in each end of it and the roof to create air flow. As long as the screens in those vents last, the mice will stay out. I do have wasps and other bugs in there. Even with the venting, humidity is an issue. I would not store anything of value in there.

I've installed these...

You can install as many as you need and they work well. Mice and bugs won't be able to get in but you probably won't have room to open the doors on the car.

Your car is listed as just shy of 72" wide. Shipping container is listed as 92" wide inside. That's a 20" space.

Park 2" from the right side and you'll have about 18" on the left side. Subtract door width and that's how much room you'll have to squeeze through the opening.

;)

I used an aluminum container for storage before I retired. It had a huge problem with condensation. Water fell from the ceiling in huge drops everywhere except underneath where I stored my aluminum boat. I scrounged some 2" Styrofoam to cover the roof and held it down with old tires to finally solve the problem.

Thanks guys. Good info all around. Humidity and condensation could be a big issue here. I have to keep silica gel tubs inside the car to keep it from molding in there as it is. My tractor shed is just metal roof on rafters and it rains in there from condensation sometimes.

Getting out of the car would be an issue too. I'm 6'4" and not as limber as I used to be (which was not very limber to begin with) and the seat is a containment seat which makes it hard enough to get in and out through the door as it is.

Anyway, appreciate the input from all. Very helpful.

You can buy a container with the end and at least one side door.. More expensive, but would allow you to drive in and get out. You can even accees the car from the side:

@Midniteoyl Interesting. I will take a look. Twenty feet is what I'd be looking for.
