Is this Normal???

Just bought a 2007 L3400DT in excellent condition w/ only 65 hrs. It's clean as a whistle and I just performed the 50 hr service as described on the forum. I have a noise rlated question....It seems that when I'm in high Range in 4th gear there is like a clanging noise from rear area...It's not obnoxiously loud by any means and may be normal ....sounds like from trans/gear area?????? not sure really. Do the trans makes more noise in high gears???

On my L4400 the tranny makes a high whining noise in 4/hi but no clanging. Look around the exterior for other possibilities. My lift arm stabilizer came loose on the tractor end once and was rubbing on the inside of the rear wheel. Took me a few minutes to find out what that noise was.

Does this clang happen just once or does it keep going? What frequency? Is it clang.....clang.....clang or clangclangclangclang?

Mine sounds as if something is loose or rattling,clanging around the rear axle area. It never does it in 1st or 2nd high range,slightly in 3rd and louder in 4th. This all may be normal. The box blade was attached back there but in the up position. I do think its nothing to worry about.

Make sure your SMV sign bolt is tight. Mine used to rattle.
