Is this normal? (coupler pix)

I need to know if anyone's trailer does this.I dont remember any of my trailers I've had doing this and it makes me a little nervous putting my tractor on it until I know for sure.

I have the same coupler on my 14K 25' trailer, I will look this weekend and get back with you. Can you still operate it the way it's supposed to be or is it bent over?

If your talking about the latch twisted off to the side, it's nothing to worry about. Just twist it back forward.

Did it get like that from the properly latched position? If so I'd be very concerned.
If it was simply latched down like that from the unlatched position, I'd just be sure to do it right and not twist it when latching.
Whether it was done when latching or from an already latched position- will it do that with a ball in it? The pic shows it with no ball in it.
I have the same/similar coupler on my dump trailer and haven't had it do that.

The shaft is probably threaded into the dog that locks under the ball when the lever is down. By turning the lever (and shaft) you can tighten or loosen the fit around the ball. Too tight and it may twist the ball when you turn; too loose and the coupler may come off.

How large a trailer do you have? If it is 12' or +, I would be looking at replacing the hitch with a Bulldog Bulldog Hammerblow trailer hitch ball couplers.

There is a nut on the bottomof the coupler you need to just tighten it enough that the spring keeps the hook engaged. Can be trickey to get so it istill goes on and off easy and the spring stays in place.

Jim the problem isn't that it wont stay engaged,it does.I just want to make sure it isnt defective because I've never seen one do that.
