loose the batterys, all that is a recipe for disaster. Go to your local tire dealership and ask for a bucket of old wheel weights, put them in feed bags then add as much or little to your box as needed

Depending on state most wheel weights are no longer lead they are coated steel, composite, and zinc weights. Some , but not all are stick on as the old style damages the newer aluminum rims. Along with the increased scrap prices you would be lucky to find anyplace giving lead weights away.

zince melts too.. just takes a lil more than lead. :)

You could also fill discarded one gallon antifreeze bottles with steel shot. I don't remember how heavy they where exactly, but I believe around 60 lbs. The handle on top of bottle makes getting them in and out fairly easy. The problem is finding someplace that handles steel shot.

Take the batteries to the local scrap yard and swap it for odds and ends of whatever they have that's heavy.
You DON'T want to mess with batteries, and it appears that you've already come to that opinion.

You can use anything that is heavy but when you start checking prices even scrap prices, you will find that concrete is cheapest for the per pound weight. You could just fill the BB with sand and cap with 3" of concrete to hold it all in.

Does the sand provide enough weight for your needs? If so than stay with the sand but throw in a couple of 4" pvc pipes vertically in the box prior to filling it with sand. than the saw blade will fit right for the ride.

when I made mine.. I found concrete and ballast mix to be the most economical way, even over scrap metal..e tc..
