Putting the gear range selector in neutral disengages the gearbox from the hydrostatic drive unit so towing can be done without harm.

Sprocket1,

I think your idea would work, or I could load it on a trailer to do same. I was trying to keep it simple & fast for hookup, because I may do this frequently.

Mark,
Your idea would kill two birds with one stone.

Get my excersize while working.

So far I hav'nt gotten enough will power to ride a bike in controlled climate. Riding through the pasture might be a chore for me. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

jrlichina,

That was my reasoning also.

Since putting the gear selector in neutral disengages the braking, I figure the hydro is not in the circuit.

Since you don't seem to have far to go and you have some concerns about towing the tractor, have you considered towing the truck instead?

Go to an old yard sale, pick up a used bike for $25, and throw it in the loader/truck bed.

That's what I was thinking, only Honda Trail 50. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Good excuse to ride a little dirt bike around the property. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Wow, I hope not! But I don't know. Never considered the brakes would not work when the tractor is in neutral... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Never noticed that they didn't when I stopped to change gear ranges.

With the hills I'm on sometimes I certainly hope that is not the case with my B2910 Kubota! I'm going to check at a safe location when I get outside today... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Now that I think about it I think my brakes do work when the range selector is in neutral...but I'm going to check anyway just to be sure.

I think he was refering to hydrostatic breaking via the transmission setup.. not the regular breaks we are thinking of on the hubs / axles.. which are what? wet brakes for that machine?

A better idea is just to have another spare tractor with a loader.. that lives at the dirt pile a 1/4 mile away. An older unit.. no frills.. etc... probably could be had cheap.

thats basicly what i do when haying, i have a honda 50 cc scooter that is street legal, yet is pretty light so when i need two tractors or a truck at a field or whatever i just throw it in the truck, or in a haywagon, or tie it to the back of the baler twine box or even the back of my hayrake. that way i can get home, or if i need to run home fast to get tools i can do that. 35 mph on a scooter sure beats 18 mph on a tractor.

It looks like a good idea. But take that piece of pipe a heave it. then get a piece of 3"X3' square hollow square tube with a 5/16' wall thicknees and put it together again. having welded and fabricated steel for over 30 years I don't have much faith in pipe for something like you are doing. That is a very nice tractor and I know that you want to keep it that way.
