Roy, were you directing that at me in a bad way? Do you forget that I am Founder and CEO of the Roy Jackson Fan Club? It's a JOKE Roy, just a joke.:p

Podunkadunk, I think he was talking about the dude who got into it with you. That guy was taking it too seriously. It's a forum for cryin' out loud. I'd have to say that some people take life too seriously. If you can't step back and laugh at stuff it's going to be a miserable life. And for that matter, sometimes people disagree with you, and that's OK. :) Lots of people disagree with me on lots of things, and I actually kind of like that because it makes me different. There's no use in getting ticked off about it.

I guess I've gotten a lot more out of it than I've put in. Someday I'll be a wise old tractor owner, and I'll share all that wisdom with the newbies.

What?!?! You mean you are supposed to know stuff about tractors before you give advice?!?! Uh oh. I seriously doubt you're more of a newbie than I am, however I have the priviledge of being on that really steep part of the learning curve. Since I basically know nothing (or knew nothing a couple of months ago) I'm learning so much my brain hurts sometimes. So even though I may have just learned something, that's what I try to share here with other folk. Mostly though, I too learn more than I can contribute, but some day the tides will turn. :)

I refuse to add anyone to my ignore list... I would miss a lot of free entertainment. ;)

I got a few people on my ignore list.. but I usually 'click thru' to read the messages anyway... Even the real 'stinkers' come up with a gem every now and then!

I tried to add myself to my "ignore list"...it confused the mainframe so badly, it almost shut down TBN:eek:

I try and think outside the box sometimes...perhaps a little to far outside sometimes. :) But I always think of the purpose of a post like this.

YALL I'm LEAVING BECAUSE....of this and that and I don't have a tractor anymore and that costume thread!!

If I leave a place(stop the wishfull thinking!! :D :D), I just leave, 10 posts or 1000 posts. If I made some close friends, I keep in touch via email or a phone call. No need to stir the pot one last time IMHO.

Good Luck Rat.

I have one person on my ignore list. I won't name him, but his constant copying and pasting over and over again to raise his post count annoyed me. At first, I felt sorry for him as this must be the saddest thing I've come across online, but after awhile, it just got tiresome.

Of the people I've had disagreements with, I find all of them interesting to read and respond to. I'm not here to buy a tractor anymore, but to learn and share what I can. I've found that some of the things I thought I knew, I didn't. I also enjoy hearing other sides to an argument, and alternative ways to accomplish the same task.

The moderators keep us in check and polite to a level that it's pretty hard to get offended when somebody disagrees, or points out a mistake. I read how some people do get upset, but I think they just take it too personally.

There is another forum that some guys from here started that doesn't moderate there topics and allows everyone to say whatever they want, however they want. It was a huge disapointment for me to read what they have to say over there. The level of anger and self serving egotistical attacks has totally ruined my view of those posters. If left to thier own responsibilities, too many people behave like spoiled children.

Here, we focus on tractors, rural living and life in general. I think because the moderators do such a good job, we all keep ourselves in check and remain civil to one another. For me, it's why I'm here and enjoy the site so much.

Eddie,
Very well said. I too looked at "another" site and also found the level of animosity to be suprising. I even read some hostile comments directed at TBN members from (former?) TBN members. Seemed to me like it isn't as positive an experience as it is here, for anyone.

Now you've gone and done it. Watch for the lock.

The internet is like the world. Take a group of people with no rules, no laws, no enforcement, and no consequences and you usually get chaos that is administrated by the nastiest folks in the bunch and everyone else trying to leave intunnels, car trunks and tiny unsafe boats. Too many rules and policemen and you get a police state, which may at times be efficient, but never any fun for anyone. Hit a happy medium with sound, basic rules and an expectation of decency and civility and then you have a pleasant, useful community.

I think TBN has hit that happy medium. And this comes from someone who gets 'moderated' fairly often. I've even had heated run-ins with a number of folks here. I don't even remember who they are and I've moved on and either they have forgiven me and moved on or ignore me and moved on. Either way, things work out for those willing to let them work out. And any time I've had 'heated' debates with people here, I always learn something valuable. Even if they were wrong.:D :D :D

I now belong to several tractor sites . My vote is still out on the others, but it appears that TBN is the most "balanced". Knowledge is to be sought and shared. I agree that ego involvement regarding a website post is a waste of energy. Life is too short to waste energy on negativity and bad boundaries.

Well said. I couldn't agree more. This site was a breath of fresh air when I found it. I learn a lot, laugh a lot, shake my head sometimes, roll my eyes sometimes, and mutter under my breath sometimes. Sometimes, I hope I even have something to give back, but for the most part I feel like I get a lot more than I give--a view another poster already expressed as well.

Thanks to all who post your experience and expertise, and THANKS to the moderators for keeping it worth coming back.

There is a squirrel dog hunting site I have visited for years. They are mainly interested in one breed of dog cause that's what they have. That's what I had. TBN being a family site makes that site seem to be for Preachers only. I have no problem with that. It's an interesting site with lots of information to compare with your own dog and hunting experiences.
Through a recent post on that site I found a couple of other sites supposedly about hunting with dogs. What I found was thread after thread laughing, ridiculeing and making fun of the other site and it was also x rated. I don't know how or why those sites started but it seems like a spinoff.

I would just like to reiterate that I like this forum, and the clean atmosphere here. Disagreements are fine, as long as people behave like ladies and gentlemen.
That is my take, and on the one point I am a bit miffed, at myself, for bringing it up:(

Naaa.. I don't have to 'click-thru' to read your posts.. that is reserved for oh.. letsee... for about 5 people if my memory serves me correctly.. 2 of which AFAIK are no longer posters here... Leave 3 in the pot.. 1 of those 3, I will occasionally click-thru to read if I'm interested in the thread topic. Another 1 of the 3 I will click thru to read probably 95% of the time... I've actually removed that poster from my ignore list a few times.. however it seems every time I remove her/him.. then i find myself having to add them right back in within a week.. and then go back to only reading about 95% of their posts (wink).. That leaves 1 member that pretty much never get's clicked-thru.. and I'm fine with that one staying that way... If i -wanted- to hear that much whining.. I'd have had children (wink );) :D

EDIT:

As far as people being in my ignore list.. or me being in someone else's list.. I think it's fine. Everyone has an opinion, and is ENTITLED to their opinion.. even if it is not in agreement with facts.. That's why it is an /opinion/. Most of us are adults here.. part of that is saying your piece. and sticking to it, even if others disagree, and hopefully not hurt too many any feelings along the way. Part of that line of thought and course of action will, invariable, eventually, offend somebody.. accidentally.. or intentionally. To paraphraze a Neal bortz comment... If I havn't offended somebody along the way.. then I havn't been speaking my mind. IE.. you'll never get universal agreement.. get what you can and move on.. no need to rub anyones nose in anything.

What keeps me coming back is a clean site w/a great deal of open sharing of information, ideas & excellent projects. I think the mods do a fine job & have no complaints. I admire the many excellent & talented buliders & fabricators who take the time to show the detail & evolution behind a project so that others can benefit from their experiences (good or bad).

Some of the other forums I frequent do not have much moderation and they sometimes get out of hand. I get tired of bickering and name calling.

You've heard the saying..."Everything in Moderation"...Well...

Yep,

Some get out of hand even WITH enough moderation.

I still say websites are like a job. If you don't like it, go find another one. All things being equal, I like it here. I like a few others. This one has a rule about promoting other websites. That's the way it is. Some don't have that rule. That's the way it is. Neither way of doing business will cause me any grief. There are issues in life that are far more important.

Like my 34 y. o. daughter STILL says when I try to explain something she doesn't agree with.......WHATEVER....!

IMHO, you summed it all up. It's been said in the thread before, but not as well. ;)
