Is PTO grinding normal?

With that little hours on it the clutch plate for the pto is probably siezed to the flywheel. Seen it alot in tractors that don't get used alot. You could try a rotary cutter and rev the throttle up and down quickly while holding the clutch pedal all the way down at the same time. This may jar it loose. If not you may end up splitting the tractor to get it unstuck.

I have never heard anything like that. What's your source ?

Will......I read that somewhere here on TBN when doing some research on tractors ......just prior to buying my 790 last fall....and that little piece of negative information has stuck in my head.

Like I say.....I am not sure if it is good information or not.....and would like to know. When I find more time I will do a search and see if I can find what was said.

In giving some more thought to this issue, I don't see where the 790's two-stage clutch is any different than any other two-stage clutch.....and this method has been around since about the 50's (??)......so.....

Why would you engage your pto[put your lever into pto] at anything above idle? I mean we are talking tractors here not lawnmowers right? throttle down, clutch all the way in,should shift right in,unless you are in some kinda bind or something. My ck 30 kioti makes no noise doing it the way I described.
