Well I finally got fed up enough with it and took it to a JD dealer . They called and said probably the pump which cost 500 and labor cost 1300 . They are going to try placing washers ? first but worst case its the pump. I told them go ahead with the repairs I bought a new 2013 MF 1635 shuttle shift so I just might sell it . Just sold my JD 1070 on Tractor House so maybe I'll just be red

How did such a minor issue become complicated into a pump. Just tighten the friction down so the 3pt control lever doesn't wander.

I don't know but I would hope these " experts " know what there doing. I will know more in a couple days. Dropped it off there last Monday morning and they just called today and also said its a day and a half job. From here on its MF for me , its a dealer issue not a brand

Your John Deere doesn't have adjustable stops that you can tighten down? so that the position control lever is (held) in the position you want ?? if your tractor does it would be an easy fix...

If the tractor will lift the bushhog at idle a new pump ISN"T NEEDED and more important won't fix it! Darned parts changers instead of mechanics. If the hitch was trying to lift but could only lift when the oil is cold or the engine is reved up a new pump might be suspected. I would complain loudly before they bill you 2000$ for unneeded work.

It is likely:

- the position lever is physically drifting to tell the hitch to take a new position,

- the tractor has draft control set to mixed or full draft or the valve for the draft control is set to this even if no lever is installed

- the position feedback from the hitch to the lift valve is not adjusted correctly.


Less likely:

- malfunction in position valve

- other

No way is that a pump problem .As said above the lever needs friction adjusted . I hope that dealer is providing the lubrication .

Agreed. You're being hosed.

The control lever should be "independent" of the 3-point movement... if it was the pump/valve/etc, the 3 point would go down but the lever would stay where it was. The mere fact the lever is moving shows that the lever is the issue, and it's commanding the 3-point to go down.

3203 is rated at 1800+ lbs at 24", the brush hog sticks out much farther so it "weighs" more than the 450 lbs of weight on the 3 point, but it's still well under what the 3203 can do.

It sure doesn't sound like the pump to me, and you have some knowledgeable folks telling you that.

Did you try tightening that control pivot yet, or will you do that after you get the bill for the unneeded service?
