I think so. I think they make the small Cubs too, at least that is what a salesman told me.

Dont know about the MTD/Briggs relationship now. I do know that MTD stopped buying briggs engines for a year or two after briggs bought murray. That was the same year the MTD started inporting chinese engines for their products. The chinese import engines is what killed Tecumseh since MTD was their biggest purchaser of their engines.

MTD builds some lower-end products for Toro, but none for JD or Husqvarna. That's the simplest way to answer your question, but if you look at the link provided by Scooby074 to MTD Products, you can scroll down and see a full list of MTD products.

JD by JD.
Husky Bolens Troy built by MTD
CC by CC

The local dealer selling CC would beg to differ with your above assessment.
He told me that CC was now the "premium" line for MTD. Said they were a cut or two above most other box store offerings, especially the JD's.

Me, I don't know what to believe as to what's a reasonable choice for a new lower cost rider. I was looking at JD's but then I went to Consumer Reports web site. The "ratings" are pretty good for the JD's and the CC's, BUT if one
reads the user reviews on either, it 50/50 at best, with lots of complaints about
cheap build and crummy service. I was seriously looking at the CC LTX1045,
but the negative 50% have got me spooked.

Luckily some guy locally was giving away a really rough old MTD, and I've got
it to where it does a good job of scalping my lawn at the highest blade setting, so for the moment I don't HAVE to buy something.

Where to go??? Which way to jump? Anyone out there have any opinions on the current Cub Cadet line?

Dennis

*======I Should have said Troy built/ Husky /Bolens are all built by MTD for the low entry level throw away riding mowers sold at the big box stores.
CC is the only one that is offered by MTD for both the cheap entry level box store market And the the better upper quality Dealers products .
The 1000 series are found at the Big box stores .
The better /best 2000 and 3000 heavy dutey top quality tractors are found at the dealers.
These are comparable to the simplicity products and the JD x series.
1*I don't blame him as i made an error in my original post.
2*Not the ones sold at the Big BOX Stores. That stuff's bout all the same no matter the label or who made it.
3*JD dealers probably tell their customers just the opposite.
4*I've come to the conclusion that the best deal on a BBS riding mower is forget the label and the manf and get the lowest price and pick it up at a dealer where you get service.
Box stores don't have a service department.
And set up is usualy done by some pimply faced kid.
5*That's not surprising since the Big Box Store mowers are all the same no made who it or the label on it.
6*Stay away from the 1000 series at the BIG BOX STORE .
Go to the cub dealer and get a 2000 series .
I bought a GT2554 and discovered it offered more bang for the buck than anything else out there .:)
