Is a "hybrid" barbed wire fence more friendly to wildlife?

Are you saying that absence of animals hung up in fence on either side of road while driving 15k-18k miles per year is not indication of what is in fences farther from road? I don't "walk" 15k miles of fence every year but I see my share of fencing in remote areas and the only deer dead in a fence a few years ago was by the interstate. By comparison I see at least a dozen goats every year with heads stuck in net field fence (usually still alive) constructed by their drugstore cowboy owners.
That's exactly what i mean. You only see the stuff by the road, but there's a bunch of fencing that's not by the road. So imagine that you are driving by a piece of fencing, it's very likely that is just one side of the fenced area, now imaging there is 3/4 of the fencing you aren't seeing. That means you are not seeing 75% of the fencing, so in your case you are not seeing between 45K-54K of the fencing thats sitting right by that particular route you are driving. Now imagine you are not seeing the fencing where you don't drive.

Deer can jump a 12' fence with ease. Witnessed it personally many times.
Are you sure it wasn't a Cougar? LOL

I have seen them (deer) jump a 10 foot fence. If given the option for a lower fence they train themselves to go around the higher fence.

Cougar can jump 12' easy. I've seen a few in cages at people's homes. 12' with a cyclone top. You could throw a can on top of pen and he'd slap it off.
Neighbor had a 12' pen with 25 white tail deer. They'd jump in and out all the time. Mainly the older ones that were more wild.

So if deer and cougar can clear 12' fences, antalope and everything else can scoot under, what difference doe it make what 5' fence is built with? BTW I saw a herd of pigs yesterday flying South for the winter.

Ever seen a bull trying to get to a cow in heat? Four foot is easy for most cattle even my little Dexter. Fencing only works when the cows want it to and are not hungry or ***!!.
Depends on your animal. We used a lot of one wire fences growing up and one hot wire was a lot more effective that three or four tight barbed wires in keeeping a horny bull in his place. consequently around our lots we used a lot of woven wire fencing with a couple of barbed wire son top and one stand-off hot wire to protect the fence. (This also helped reduce a lot of rubbing in the spring which is tough on fences.)
