Rotary Cutter International rotary cutter

Has anyone heard of a International rotary cutter or another term(bush hog)? There is a local dealer that sells them ,a five footer for $675.00 with shear pin and $875.00 with slip clutch. I' ve never heard mention of one here. It looks to be of high quality. I am cutting about 10 acres mostly grass but I want to get medium duty in case I do some heavier stuff. Any thoughts?

<A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.tractorbynet.com/forumfiles/5-229651-InternationalRotaryCutters-800.jpg>They appear to be similar to KingKutter style</A>, but what I like better is the thick stump jumpers they use… ½” – ¾” pan cut steel versus 3/16” on most standard pans… This mass will allow a smaller PTO hp tractor to sustain cutting in tougher woody material or higher grass… in turn helping to get the max torque out of your tractor… /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

One of the weak areas as with all the cheaper rotary cutters is the A-frame assembly… not solid enough for everyday rough cutting duties… tends to twist and bend as time goes on… /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

John..........I'm looking to purchase a 6' light/ medium duty cutter.........A local dealer has both Howse and King cutter available both with a 40 HP gearbox....The KK is $100 more.........Is it worth the difference??.........I've had KK products before with decent results.......Tom

Hi Tom…

First… big price difference between “light/standard” duty and “medium” duty… as well as construction differences… /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

I have owned both… and I really bad-mouthed Howse for a time… maybe they had a bad batch/run when they made mine and some friends a few years back… With that said, I’ve seen some older Howse units, I’ve had to look at twice to make sure it was the same company… when I saw the massive steel deck and skids and A-frames used (MD units)… and I’ve seen some newer units that looked much better than my purchase… all-in-all though, I found KingKutter to have better overall manufacturing consistency…

Let your eyes and gut be the judge by looking at both of them side by side, especially on a standard duty unit… basically both should have 40 hp rated gearboxes (I know for a fact the Omni 40 hp box on KK will do 60hp on an “severe” intermittent basis /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif) Also, Howse may be trying to get more market share, as I’ve seen 5’ Howse units at auctions brand New for as low as $400…

My personal opinion, KK makes a great entry level, most bang for the buck standard rotary cutter… but if you are considering medium duty or higher… then for only a few dollars more… I’d consider other mfrs..

Was it built by Int. or just red paint with their sticker?
As far as implements go, I tend to go with the heavier guage metal on the deck, sides, and hp rating of the gear box. Guess a fellow has to satisfy himself as to how much he wants to spend as to how heavy a tool he can find.

We sell that brand and stock all parts for them. That pricing you got, may be a tad high--We sell the IM 500 (International, Made in Bethel, Ohio) 5 ft with shearpin for $599 and $699 with clutch. I have sold most brands of Brush Hogs in the 26 years in the retail business and the International will give you more bang for the buck than Howse or KK.--Ken Sweet

We sell the International Rotary Cutters. For the money I don't think you can beat them. We have sold them for a couple of years and haven't had a single one come back yet. They are tough and ugly. Paint could be better but who cares if a rotary is pretty?

I have a five foot International cutter, 72" tiller, and PHD. All three implements are really heavy duty and much cheaper than other brands. All have worked well. They may be missing a few convenience features. For example, the tiller doesn't have a jack stand but that's minor considering the over all value.
