International 260A Backhoe

I have an opportunity to buy an International 260A backhoe with a D239 engine and hydro tranny for around $1900. I only want it for around my small farm. I am told that the diesel motor has antifreeze in the oil pan but runs, the backhoe only moves up and down not side to side, and the front bucket will need a new edge. I have seen pictures of it and it really doesnt look that bad. How are the hydrostatic drives on these tractors? A bargain based on price alone could easily become a very expensive and regretful experience, trust me I've been there /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif From the little you describe I'd pass on it, or at least hire a mechanic to look at it closely.

I have an A260. I have problems with the hydrostatic system.
After using it for 10 to 20 minutes the tractor will not move.
I am looking for a machanic. The tractor is in northern Idaho. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I have a friend who's had a 260A for about 15 years. About 9 months ago it started loosing power. The motor ran fine he just had no hydraulic power. He replaced the pump ~$900 but it made no difference. Any thoughts on what could be the problem?
