I have a JD 4500 with a starting issue. When cold, the tractor will turn over but not start. Several years ago I got frustrated with the seat pressure switch and took it out. I put the red and white and red wires from the switch together. All was well. Lately the starting problem began. When I check the wires they are tightly together. When I put the wire nut back on and then the tractor will start. What should I look for next? Has me baffled.

That's the puzzle. I try to start the tractor and no luck. I take the wire nut off and put it back on and it does start. The wires are twisted tightly together. Maybe there is a fault further down the wire and just moving them works. Once the tractor is warm it starts fine.

The wires may be a bit oxidized. Taking the wire nut off and replacing it may be contacting a new area on the wires permitting better conductivity. You could try replacing the wire nut with one of the grease filled underground variety.
