Interesting Towing Test

I'd guess the Toyota and Nissan V8's have forged cranks. I'm almost certain the 6.2 GM does. The newer 5.3 may also. Not sure.

It's not the crank that will fail. Typically a nodular iron crank is tough as nails and can withstand much higher power than you could imagine.

I'm not putting down the EcoBoost. I'm not trying to offend you either. I'd likely get the same engine myself if I was to buy a 1/2r Ford. I'm sure yours will give you good service.

I appreciate a good conversation no offense taken. I hope that it will hold up as well. I was a little nervous buying it the first year of production and being a guinea pig. As years pass, I feel more comfortable that they built it right and it has given me great service. There are a lot of people who are major anti-ecoboost for unfounded reasons and hope to see these engines fail. I am not brand loyal to anyone and purchase what I feel meets my needs the day of purchase. I will defend the ecoboost from non-believers until mine fails. LOL

The crank and the entire block failed on this EB just cruising down the highway. At least the turbo PT Cruiser had a iron block. http://www.f150forum.com/f70/blown-ecoboost-wtf-pics-inside-170270/index10/

And my brother's PowerStroke threw a rod through the side of the block while driving. It was an iron block as well. Those pictures just go to show that nothing made by man is perfect, and there are bound to be failures. Based on the number of severe failures of the EcoBoost so far, I think Ford has done an excellent job.

A good test if you live in the Rockys. However since I don't live near them it means nothing to me.

Why not? Just look at the zero to 60 times pulling a load and the distance needed to do so shows a lot.

Not near what a 10-20 minute hard pull at altitude would.

A couple of years ago the 6.7 Powerstroke got stomped in the Rockies by a Duramax. This is after the Ford compared quite well to the DMax at lower altitudes.

The EcoBoost has the ability to make up for thin air(somewhat) with turbocharging. It also has an inter cooler that will become heat soaked.
