Interesting Towing Test

When doing a comparison of pulling power, axle ratios' need to be the same or darn close.

I would agree, the old apples to apples. Figures don't lie but fibres can figure. Anyway my 5.9 CTD 03 2500 with 9000 lbs ;).

Why not? Just look at the zero to 60 times pulling a load and the distance needed to do so shows a lot.

Chris

How is how well a truck can tow at altitudes above 10,000 feet relevant to most people? It's about as relevant as the 0 to 60 tests where some trucks spin the wheels and the traction control kicks in. Or revving up the motors before starting the test. All they proved is what should have been known to most any auto enthusiast, at high altitudes a normally aspirated engine will struggle to get air. About all I learned was that the Tundra smoked the Ford when it came to braking in their test.

When it comes to 0 to 60 times it's the total ratio of both first gear, the rear R&P gears, and the circumference of the tires. Even the tire compound plays a role.

Exactly. Total drive ratio is far more important that the actual ratio. You can get your total ratio from deep gears in the transmission or in the axle or by putting small tires on. People forget the large diameter tires that come on the trucks now vs 30 years ago, and the huge change in first gear ratios in the last 30 years.

Yeah, a post from a beginner with no pics or further info.....troll!

You drew first blood Rambo by calling the ecoboost "egoboost" and now more name calling! You need pictures? How old are you?

You really think with 3:73 gears the Chevy will come out on top? In this test the rpms were already in the engines sweet spot. All a lower rear end will do is make it upshift a gear and fall on its face.

It appears that you are a die hard Chevy boy/man that hates it when their current model cannot out perform a 3 year old model.

Again none of this is very scientific.
As far as the brakes are concerned, the tundra doesn't offer an integrated brake controller in 2013 which is a huge fail. They had 3 different drivers and they didn't have the gain properly set on the ford as they acknowledged. A trailer that heavy should've had the gain set at 10, the maximum.
