JD 2305
My homeowners only insures a 'Lawn Mower' up to $5,000. Just paid off my JD 2305 on the 3 year, no interest plan. Unfortunately, that means the physical damage insurance is gone too.

I now have a large uninsured gap, and this thing does everything from fixing my driveway to tilling the garden to mowing the field -- not to mention mowing the lawn. It's parked outside under a covered deck, so it is subject to both theft and fire. I could ruin it myself too...

A separate policy is ~$350 per year, which I though was too steep.

Anyone found a better option?

will they not cover it with an addtional rider (not seperate policy)

ask what they do if you get an ATV or dirtbike etc.

while your at it ask about your garage/barn coverage.

if all that is lacking start shopping for new overall coverage.

Turk,

My homeowner's insurance policy covers me up to the limits of my policy as long as the tractor stays on my property. If I take it down the road to mow in front of the fire department sign it is not covered.

Got my 35HP tractor insured as a rider on my house insurance. Cost is a bit over $100.00 per year, this is with a value of $33,000.00. It is only good if on my property, not off it.

Make some calls. Do a bit of shopping for an "Inland Marine" policy.

Likewise, boats, RVs, and other type of units many times require their own policy to be sure your adequately covered, especially if your tractor goes off the property.

I have such a rider(s) on a number of things. It is not unusual at all. It just isn't. If your agent doesn't offer such things, I find it a sign of a weak agency, imho, not a full service insurance agent. Similarly, riders need to be put on big diamonds and other jewelry, very expensive antiques (with appraisals), musical instruments of high value and so forth. Again, do some shopping with a different agency if yours isn't particularly helpful.

It should be covered under your Homeowner's/Renter's policy.Mine is (State Farm) but only when on my property. I got an Inland Marine type policy through State Farm which covers the tractor and implements anywhere. I think it costs about $300/$350 per year.

Mine is covered on my property through State Farm. I added $10,000 coverage for off property for about $120 per year.
