Installing a remote "starter" switch

I need to bleed the air from the 6 cylinder diesel on my Ford 6000 after the hose between two metal section of the fuel line failed. Working on my own makes this difficult due to the need to turn over the engine at the same time as cracking the bleed screws.

Has anyone fitted a remote switch near the injector pump to make this easier? I presume it will be nothing more than a couple of heavy wires from the solenoid to a new switch mounted on the frame near the pump

Any suggestions appreciated

If there is a lift pump on the side of the block and most diesels have one, there should be a small lever on the side that operates the lift pump to prime the fuel lines. Because the lift pump operates off of the camshaft sometimes you need to turn the engine to a different spot to get the lift pump to operate.

go look at your local autoparts store.
They should have a hand held switch with long leads and alligator clips, made for turning over an engine.

A local also mentioned the lift pump lever but either I'm blind or stupid, or both but I can't find one. The hand-held switch is what I had in mind but I'm 1.5 hours from the nearest supplier (3 hours return) so it is easier to make one up. The alligator clips make sense- easier than wiring in something that will not be used again any time soon (hopefully)

No, you are not blind.
Some have that lever but many do not. (mine does not either)
If your starter is on the same side as bleeding operations you can easily jumper the solenoid to attain the bleeding. On mine I can easily reach the switch.

Unfortunately, the starter is on the opposite side of the beast and the regular starter switch is in the cab of course. I'll have to run wires from the solenoid to a new switch mounted onto the frame. This picture is helpful - thanks to BHD for the link
