Starting from scratch here. Kioti NS4710H Cab w/3rd function on order.
Are there preferred implement manufacturers or does it depend the implement itself?
Which implements does it make sense to buy used and which would you prefer to buy new.
I know I want a
grapple of some kind to move brush and logs etc., some kind of chisel plow and disk, some kind of mower (rotary or flail), something to pullup small trees and remove small stumps, probably a tiller.
Do you find any value in renting to try an implement out before buying? I am sure I'll have tons more questions as we go.
Do you find value in getting them through the local dealer vs buying online or box store?
Any and all advice greatly appreciated!
I wouldn't be afraid to buy any implement used, but look for stuff that's in excellent condition. Don't buy junk thinking you'll fix it up. You'll likely have this equipment till you simply have no use for it anymore. Don't buy anything that's bent up or has been repaired / welded.
As someone else mentioned, I see a LOT of deals on FB Marketplace. Deaths, divorce, and downsizing result in implements being offered for sale and you can decide on the price / savings / value for yourself. Just be ready to pounce when you see something you're interested in cause it will sell fast if it's priced right.
And, Buying USED from a DEALER is much different than buying USED from a private party. With a dealer you have to be more careful and you're likely paying a premium price. From a private party you need to listen to "why they're selling" and know what you're looking at.
I've never bought anything from the few online niche implement manufacturers. I don't think they can build a tiller or box blade, etc. any better than others and have no interest in paying for freight. (For a tiller, the older yellow King Kutter models are a great machine. The new ones might be just as good -- I don't know -- cause mine is 24 years old and still does a great job.)
I buy whatever I want. But for stuff like forks and blades and bush hogs and tillers I'd "save" searches on FB and watch daily for anything that fits my criteria. I like spending less when I can and usually find no reason to buy this kind of hardware new from a dealer. (Unlike a zero-turn, for example, which I'd almost never consider used. Very rare to find someone getting rid of a mower that's not a problem. Usually some friend or family would jump on that before it got listed.)
For tillers, box blades, grader blades, discs, and drags, you'll want something that's at least as wide as your rear tire tracks. Any of the best grade Rural King or TSC offerings should do as much work as Frontier, Land Pride, or Woods. They're all good brands. No need to waste rent money to test drive a blade.
For a finish mower or anything with belts and a gear-box, buy something that is perfectly straight and seems new. Used is still ok, but old bearings and spindles and bent decks can be a headache. Find one that's been sitting in a garage or barn and almost never used.
Anyway, good luck with your shopping! Just my opinion and general philosophy about acquiring accessories for your new tractor.
