Kubota BX-24D Cub Cadet LT42e
I finally got tired of looking at my Deere green box blade and yellow post hole digger. This project took 6.5 cans of spray paint. I used paint from Agri-Supply; the label on the top says 60861, and on the UPC code it says 8-02971 Kubota Orange. In retrospect, I'm kind of thinking that the box blade would have been easier to brush on as it took a lot of coats and my wife has pointed out the parts of the driveway and garage floor are now tinted orange. I guess I didn't quite have a big enough dropcloth. I'm not sure how the paint job will hold up as I haven't used the box blade since, but at least the bare metal spots are covered for a while. I also painted the box blade teeth and blades with a flat black engine paint that I had lying around.
Here are the pics:

That does look much better!!!

Did you use primer first or did you just start painting? Any prep work before you started?

I'm glad you didn't paint your son either!! :)

But I have to ask, looks like you live in a residential neighborhood, does your tractor play in the country or do you have a huge back yard?

I sanded down the loose paint and rust spots with a little sand paper or a wire brush on the dremel tool. I didn't try to get too fancy as the digger had big drip marks from when it was originally painted and I kept telling myself I wasn't painting a car, I was painting farm implements. I basically didn't use primer. I had one can of old Kubota orange that I used for the first coat, then I used the Agri-Supply stuff. I ran out and had to order more, and if you order online from them, there is no way to select expedited shipping. A week later, I wish I had just called them on the phone, it would have been quicker. I had one ten dollar can of Kubota paint that I used on the loader and backhoe buckets but the Agri-Supply stuff seemed to go on easier. The Kubota stuff seems to take many more coats, but that would probably yield a better result if you have the patience for it.

This is a regular 1/5 of an acre lot in a subdivision. The fronts had some weak sod and the backyards were totally unfinished. I'm gathering up the pictures to post my yard project which I'll do in a couple of days. My neighbors keep gesturing toward the tractor and asking me, "Did you buy that thing?" It doesn't add up until they learn that we have a 20 acre lot about ten minutes away. The BX-24 is probably too small for that operation, but I think it will work out quite nicely. Eventually its prime duty will be lawn mowing and chipping and I don't want a huge tractor for a lawn mower. As soon as I can figure out a way to get it there I'm going to move it over to the lot and construct some form of shelter for it and it's orange friends.

The "Before" pic of the box blade looks like you photographed it before it ripened, the after pic the implement must have ripened in the orange sun!

Just drive it over there. WA State law allows for driving farm tractors on public roads within a 15 mile diameter circle of your home.

Read about it in exclusions to the licensing provisions of the code of regulations.

Looks like everything has rippened nicely, lol. Here is VT construction equipment needs to be registered but ag equipment just needs to have the orage triangle. I often see some badly overloaded trucks and equipment coming back from the field or hay wagons that wander all over the road. I guess what I'm saying is if you can find a time when the roads are lighly traveled I would agree with just driving it there.

I was a little leery of doing that due to some blind corners on Mountain Highway. I ended up asking a neighbor and he moved it on his trailer for free. He wouldn't let me give him any gas money. Gotta like tractor owners!

I never had much luck with rattle can paint on impliments because it goes on so thin. I get better coverage with a brush though it takes at least twice as long to dry.

I just painted this what I call a "Receiver" this weekend. It was rusty and basically pretty disgusting. (shame on me) I use it for a carry-all, platform for a ripper bar, de-thatcher, sprayer etc etc. I put hooks on the end to pull a drag too.

The legs with the wheels attached can be adjusted up and down for height.

Especially with the sprayer I wanted a good thick coat of paint. Unfortunately......... it's still tacky a day later.

Nice paint jobs!

When I got the BX2350 I went on a campaign to revitalize my older attachements. BushHog, Grader blade & Rake all got "the orange treatment".

And anything new, like the FEL forks will, of course, get the Orange/Blck/Gray treatment.
Anyone find a good match to the Kubota Gray?
I used the Rustoleum "Painter's Choice" Dark Gray, it's close, but no Ceeegar.

48" BushHog, fully disassembled, wire brushed, new blades, new front seal, changed gear oil, painted and adjusted to level for new machine.

Rear grader blade, 20+ yr.s old, was 6 foot, cut down to 5 foot, disassembled, sand blasted, painted with new hardware.

The old rusty gear is comig back to life. :D

It might take a while at 8 mph. I'm assuming 10 minutes away would be at 45 - 60 mph.

I have several implements that I would like to paint. What is the most efficient procedure in accomplishing this. I was thinking steel brush to remove loose rust. A general pressure washing, and maybe painting with an air sprayer. I have a 30 gallon 2hp air compressor. What tools do ya'll use. Will bare metal need a primer? Any particular brand paint suggested? It will be orange!

Bare metal will need a prime coat, for sure.

For non-finer things, after cleaning, I like going over the painted surfaces with some 220grit, followed by Deglosser. Makes the new paint bond a lot better.

I like to be able to do fast touch ups, so, spray can is fine with me. Ace Hardware caries "Equipment Paint" , and the orange is a fairly close match. Also have used the Chevy #200 Orange, which is even closer of a color match.

very nice work. we have a few implements (small Cutting Harrow and Scrape Blade) that i want to paint up to make them more appealing for selling them.

Someone posted in one of the paint threads about Rustoleum Charcoal Gray- IMO it is a perfect match for the Kubota gray. Used some on my 2007 BX24 on the ROPS..

I was trained in commercial spraying at my current job, the simplest way to prep a surface is with a simple scouring pad (scotchbrite in Australia), rub down the entire implement with the scourer to scuff up the surface and prep it for paint. Use gasoline as a cheap thinner and hit any rust spots with a wire brush and sand paper. Spray any bare steel with primer and then topcoat. Using a compressor without a dryer you need to be aware of water in the line will make for a horrible paint job. You'll need a high capacity compressor so you don't loose pressure half way through and a reasonable spray gun. Go to your local autoshop/auto paint supplier and talk to them about paint, as it varies depending on suppliers. Debeers is a top brand from holland. Expensive though.

Been redoing a bunch of stuff recently and found the easiest way was to hit it with the sand blaster (with a respirator on), then prime it with a brush. Then brush paint it - yes brush paint it. I was VERY VERY surprised to find that you can't see a brush mark - the implement paint is VERY thick and seems to just smooth itself out as it dries. When I did my post hole digger boom, it was slightly pitted in a few spots, and a little rough all over - after paint- it was VERY smooth with a nice shinny even coat. I was very pleased with the outcome.

Singlecoil,
