<font color="orange"> Check for painted hoses, painted seals, painted belts and plastic parts. I would imagine that an engine with only 100 hours is practically brand new.

My John deere yanmar's engine is all green, belts, hoses, filler caps and I bought it new.

Re: I\'m the guy with the FX24D that failed in an hour

Jim, I thought I knew these guys. What happened with me is I made some inquiries over a year ago with the same address but the company was called "Equipment King" and as I recall they were a newer up and running tractor company with the Vietnam reconditioned tractors.

There was a previous owner with a different name that I can't recall, but they were replaced by the Equipment King Co. I just tried to access their website with negative results.

Just a few minutes ago, I called a number that I had from a flyer from July 2004. The company is now called "LCI Equipment" - same location in Canton, TX. They sell retail and wholesale refurbished and repainted tractors from Vietnam. The lady I talked with states "They absolutely do not sell tractors on Ebay" She also stated that there is a buyer who purchases often and advertises almost exclusively on Ebay. Hmmmmm.

So in defence of LCI, they answered all my questions, including tractors that don't make the cut go to auction immediately. They have free delivery for first 100 miles, and they include a 90 day warranty on parts (only?). Toll Free 866-398-4763

So, I can honestly say, I don't know anyone up there anymore (except for Aaron and Stan Hoye). And I think there are two seperate entities - the direct dealer in Canton and the Ebay dealer of the same city.

Re: I\'m the guy with the FX24D that failed in an hour

I bought this tractor on eBay last spring. The auction never mentioned reconditioning of any kind.

Now that I think about it, however, I do recall the hoses and certain other parts being spray painted with black paint. I knew this wouldn't have been done at the factory but I thought the seller just "detailed" it prior to shipping.

I'm now only 90% certain it is original - not reconditioned. A replacment hour meter could have been installed in a 500 hour machine, I guess but it's so nice everywhere I found it easy to believe the hour meter.

Thanks to all.

Re: I\'m the guy with the FX24D that failed in an hour

Dennis;
Go for it. I've twisted wrenches for many years as a licenced technician. If you are competent with a wrench, you can do this heart transplant yourself. As to marking wires etc, If you don't twist things all out of shape, you'll find that everything just naturally goes into place. The length and shape of wires, hoses, lines etc. will tell you where they belong. If you have to pull and twist to put it back on, then it doesn't go there. The parts will talk to you if you listen. The price you were quoted should almost get you a complete rebuild. Stay away from those guys. YOU CAN DO IT!! If you hit a snag some of the great guys in this forum will help you thru it.

Re: I\'m the guy with the FX24D that failed in an hour

Dennis,

I would check your state laws. If you bought the tractor from a business in your own state, many states (Maryland being one) have laws in place that state that a product should last as long as one would normally expect it to last and any seller imposed warranties do not limit the extent of the law. For that much money, one hour advanced on the hour meter, and 32 days after the sell, you might have a strong case.

Re: I\'m the guy with the FX24D that failed in an hour

Dennis,
I have pulled 6 diesel engines this year. None were bad, but I do it because I clean, measure, powerwash and paint my tractors when disassembled.
From A-Z this is what I do:
1- Remove horn, lights wire by unpluging connectors.
2- Remove Hood, battery, radiator (drain), decomp linkage and throttle linkage.
3- unplug Magneto or alternator, water temp and oil sender and thermostart wires and drape wire harness back over the fuel tank. And tach drive cable.
4- Remove fuel supply line (drain or pinch off with vice grips)
5- Remove drive shaft (carefully, some have ball bearings)
You are now at approx 2 hours
6- Remove steering linkage
7- Jack up engine and block up safely to keep from tilting. I use the area flat under the transmission using a 4x4 and jackstands.
8- Remove large center pin directly in the middle of your FWD axle, and roll front axle and wheels to the end of your shop.
9- Remove frame rail, 8 bolts, 4 on each side, watch your toes as you may need to pry a little for it to come loose.
10- There should be nothing left except your tractor rear, transmission and the engine hanging freely. Remove hydraulic pressure and return lines, and finally your starter.
You are now at approx 4hours
11- Secure your engine with chain or heavy nylon strap to your cherry picker (I use my tractor with FEL) with a little slack.
12- Remove bellhousing bolts to engine, and take up slack. POP......engine is out.
You are now at approx 5 hours
I do all my engines the same way, and can usually pull one in less than 4 hours with help. This also gives you the opportunity to pull pressure plate, t/o bearing and disk to check for ware. I am not at my shop, and it's been about 3 months since I pulled an engine.......so I am doing this from memory. If I forgot anything I think someone will chime in here.
Again, good luck, Mark
