After teradown and replace 2x the carbeurator on 52-63 IH 140 w/ zenith carbeurator
The tractor cranks right up!
It runs wel. As soon as I engage pot, it stalls and will choke down unless I stop pto.
The tank has ben drained and is clean; the filter screen is clean, fuel is arriving to the neck of the carbeurator. Why does it stop/choke down when pto engaged??
My grass is growing by leaps and bounds.

Have you tried adjusting the main jet..?? If I'm understanding right, this is a new, or rebuilt carb..??

Gently run the main jet screw in, until it bottoms out. Back out 1-1/2 turns, and see how it runs then. If somewhat better, but not to suit you, you can tweek it in or out from there to get the final adjustment.

thank you

Does it stall out only when you use the pto, or does it also stall when you drive it? Could be your pto is frozen up.

only stalls when pto runs cutting with bushhog after a short distance symptom is like choking down than torque from pto strain or lockup

After re-reading your original post, about the filter screen... Is that the one above the sediment bowl..?? If so, did you check the internal one in the carb.? Where the fuel line attaches to the carb., that el has a filter screen on it.

Sounds like lack of fuel, or you've got a vacuum leak.

Or, possibly the governor is not activating like it should, when under load asking for more fuel.

My fuel line is steel, but I suspect, it could happen with either. Good luck.i

I believe this was a problem even before ethanol was introduced, ethanol just makes it worse... I've seen more then several older Ford tractors with spring type clothes pins on the fuel lines, for a heat sink. We had a 4000 at work with a belly mower that our mechanic put a couple on it, and solved the problem.

And could be that rubber fuel line has collapsed somewhat inside, restricting fuel flow.
