Jim,

Even with the great pictures, that's a hard one. Seems like it might be a wild salvia. Bee balm would usually have more of a clustered flower; there is a picture of the wildflower variety which grows out your way under Wild Bergamot on this page. But if was either one it would have a square stem like a mint--the picture looks like the stem is tubular?

Looks like it could be Indian Pink, Trumpet-shaped flower, red outside and yellow (or white) inside. Leaves two to fours inches long, overall height 1 - 2 feet.

I agree with Pajoube - Indian Pink (Spigelia marilandica). See eNature Wildflower Field Guide

Chris,

Great nature site! eNature, that is. Never saw it before.

Hey PJ, you did such a good job with that ID that maybe you can name the flowers and the butterflys in this quad shot. As a matter of fact, I know them all, so I'll just make it a challenge to anyone. I took all these photos at my country place in Texas.

Does anyone else have any plant/wildflower photos? This could be a fun thread to get started if we can get several people involved.

This is a tough one.
Upper left might by Leatherleaf Saxifrage. Can't see the leaf though.
Pink one looks like a Coneflower. You can buy them in all colors in nursery
Yellow one looks like Garden Coreopsis
Not sure of the other one - lower right
