Agree. The tiller is probably not worth repairing anyway for the money. Unfortunately, it would be better to find a like used tiller at least.

Still working off some broad assumptions, some AI, some Google, and guessing; i find what May be a replacement shaft, atleast for a similar tiller, for $315. Now, please dont take any of that as gospel.

At that point, assuming you ID that this Is the right part, I would assess the over all condition, and decide. Maybe its worth it, but make sure the rest still has years of service left in it. I still dont like the wear on the top, out-put axle shaft; and if we start talking about $600-700 worth of shafts, possibly sprockets, chains, and still a 30-40 year old impliment, I start atleast questioning if its the right choice to rebuild it.

I am pretty sure that Caroni shaft is the crossshaft for the gearbox to side drive. If a brand/model is identified, a new rotor assembly will likely run at least twice the $315 price. You need to remove the rotor from the tiller and clean up parts to identify the brand

The photos show a number of design/construction similarities to our older County Line tiller, as well. That one was made by Tarter and was 10 years old when the "shaft" that holds the tines broke in two. This was shortly after replacing some worn out tines, of course. We think one too many rocks with the slip clutch just a bit too tight are probably what did it in, but are sure overall wear was a factor, too.

We briefly considered trying to weld it with a pipe inside to reinforce the repair, but decided the chances of getting it straight enough and welded good/strong enough were remote. Not to mention weather had us running late and we needed a tiller ASAP.

Since Tractor Supply had them on sale before Father's Day, we bought a new one, and never looked back.

Take out the shaft and drive to a machine shop. They can make another one. If there is plenty of teeth left on the old girl then get her fixed. Looks like a nice stought rig . Wish I had it. I would fixer up. I have a 4ft. one that resembles that one that I would fix if it broke like that. You cant really take it back home like that.
