I wanna farm

I live on one of the last farms in Naperville, Illinois. I want to make a micro farm out of it.

Right now, I'm going nuts over which single row planter I should get. There is one acre I want to put sweet corn on that has been worked by another guy to keep that parcel taxed low.

First it was the Yetter until I found out about the plentiful JD 71's refurbed, etc. and now I found out about the Cole MX and Covingtons.

I only have a JD X585 4wd with a limited 3 pt cat 1, but have a rear pto tiller too. The 3 pt can lift a 40inch woods bush hog but it strains some.

There is another acre bare naked too that has been lawn for decades and I want to churn part of that up and plant some other saleable veggies/herbs/berries and such. Plus, because that lawn had never ever been fertilized, I may be able to get info on how I could call those crops "organic"

I'm also looking for tips to where in a 150 mile radius around Chicago I could search for an older smallish "real tractor". I am a fine mechanic so I wouldn't need a mint one. Maybe I could get in the town Parade!:laughing:

First off, you have to have a pretty good "off farm" job to support your farming hobby. The Covington 1 row planter that we sell for $1395 does well for all seeds. We also have a 1 row Thrifty and a 1 row Case for $795 each and both have extra units that come with them for spare parts or converting to a 2 row later on. Ken Sweet
