While moving gravel today and a couple days ago I noticed something funny about the FEL. Let me explain what is happening and maybe someone can say yes or no.

Picture this.....FEL bucket is just past level, pointing down a bit, like I am going to back drag some gravel. When I lower the FEL for the Float mode, the bucket also raises considerable. Like there is no back pressure to hold the bucket in said position. So I raise the FEL and reset the bucket where I want it and then push the FEL into float mode again. It works this time and bucket stays where it should be without issue and back drags nicely. This has happened a few times.

Now, today and a couple days ago I noticed the FEL had trouble picking up a full bucket of gravel. At first I figured it was the wet clay soil I was working with the first couple times but today was just gravel and the FEL struggled to lift it and to roll back to get a full bucket.

Part of this might be my skill level for working the roll-back and lift at the right times to fill the bucket effectively. It took me sometime to learn the right way on a Bobcat, so I am still learning this FEL.

The bucket moving after I set it for back dragging is annoying and I'm wondering if that is normal? Like pressure has left and I need to reset it before I want to have back pressure.

Noting normal about what you are describing it sound alike maybe something up with your control valve

I'll call the dealership tomorrow and see what they say.

So when I put the bucket angled down and lower the FEL it should be solid, even without reving the engine?

If I rev the engine it will pick the front end up and hold fast.

My DK if dump the bucket fast and want to back drag with the bucket angled down. I need to put the bucket on the ground and use the control valve to put tension on the bucket a few seconds to back drag.

Then what I am having happen is normal. Each time I went to back drag I just dumped the bucket, once I reset my position I was good to go.

Mine has always been that way since 2001.
I'm so used to it I never give it much thought, I just put the bucket on the ground use the joystick in dump to put some tension on the bucket to back drag and go.
I think the bucket dumps faster than the oil can keep up, takes a couple seconds in dump mode to get tension back on the bucket for back dragging.

In float position there is no down pressure. If you back drag with down pressure and the bucket curled forward there's a good chance you'll bend the cylinder rams for the bucket.

If engine is running and you start with say buck four feet off ground

Then you angle bucket getting ready to back drag

Then you push joystick all the way forward to detent and your loader will slowly under its own weight fall to the ground and rest there

You them back drag and loader will move up and down with the contour of the ground as only thing holding down is its own weight

If you pull joystick towards you out of detent and onto power down the loader will lower and front of machine will raise

The only thing Erving the motor should do is speed up the power down and power up process

Reving up the motor in theory does not add power to hydraulics just speed

Hope this helps

Agreed be careful when back dragging I always try to do in float mode

Question, I thought only the lift cylinders float? Not the curl.
