Greetings,

I have a 2210D Yanmar Tractor. Recently I believe I made some serious mistakes while I was changing the battery.

1st- In short, my battery was dead. I took it to a local autozone to get it recharged. When I came back to the farm I removed my car battery from a 2003 Toyota Tundra, and stuck it in the tractor. I hooked what I thought were the positive and negative cables to the battery. I got some unusual sparks then some smoke came out of something on the left side of the tractor in front of the starter connected to what looks like a fan belt. What did I burn out?

2nd- I assumed that a regular car battery could be used. Is this true? And are the positive and negative cables on the tractor consistent with what is on the truck.

3rd- I was also in the process of changing the ignition switch. Is there a generic brand that I can use for the 2210D because the local yanmar dealer charges $50.00

Please Help /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

OK,is this like a test or trick question?

man your making me think...and hard at that....I think it's the right hand side while standing infront of the tractor lookin' at it....better yet look on the battery and find the "+" mark for the pos. or red side and the "-" mark for the neg. or blace side of battery

Dang I hate when that happens.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

(pos. /red/hot) goes to the starter
(neg./ground/black) goes to the frame to be grounded

If the cables are not color coded, look for the one connected to the chassis--that will connect to the negative terminal of the battery.

The car battery should work if the + and - are on the same side. The positive and negative sides of the battery are not always the same on all batteries. I remember that Chevy and Ford are just oposite. I am afraid you may have smoked the diode inyour alternator or if a DC generator you may have smoked the voltage regulator. Both can be easily replaced. OOps..........

This is why I recently replaced my worn out ones with color coded cables!
