------------> PROPERLY installed saddle clamps are "as strong" as the full diameter wire rope, so you can't get any stronger than that.

I respectfully disagree. I tested saddle clamps vs Flemish eye using an overhead crane and the back end of a forklift for weight. It wasn't even close to being a contest.

Perhaps your test was better than mine? I tested them with a drag line crane and also behind a D7 I had....never had a problem with saddle clamps...not even one...

I've always found these rather elegant as a method of wrapping, but I've never tried making one.

nice video! learned something new!

i have tried just the clamps. *meh* good tug and cable would wiggle themselves out of clamp. i was not doing the weave!

an additional note. "nut sure what they are called". but had some problems of cable "pinching" and then breaking. the end of the loop, i placed a U shape piece. so hook, other cable, what ever going through loop. hit the back side of the U, vs directly rubbing on cable. i ended up using another cable clamp. to stiffen things up. so the U shape piece would not fall out and get lost.

Ironically, it was a drag line crane owner that taught me the Flemish eye.

When I did logging (many years ago) we didn't know the Flemish eye trick and made up our cables like you. We didn't have any problems either. But from a safety standpoint, I'm going with the eye.

Nice job. When I ruined the cable on my 15k winch on my truck I replaced it with synthetic. Used it about three years with no issues before I sold the truck. It was a lot easier to handle and showed no signs of wear. I was careful when winching though never really rubbed the cable on anything but it got plenty muddy.
