I have never been impressed with the brakes on tractors, let alone the parking brakes. When retrieving firewood on VERY steep wooded area last year, I learned to appreciate the 4 wheel parking brake on the Toolcat. It always stays where you park it.

I hope the OP gets healed.
After plus 6 weeks I am going batty laying around in the house. A lot of projects could have been completed had I not maimed myself.
My poor wife is overwhelmed even with help from her adult children.

Be sure to take the time to heal up correctly and do your physical therapy. Many times I have rushed the healing process only to regret it.

At some point I need to publish my 7 rules of gun safety also
I skipped a few pages in the middle of the thread, but what's the publication date on this one? :p

Great story, and great warning. Sorry you had to get run over to get the material for it! Hopefully everything mends up without any serious lasting effects.

I am about 4 weeks behind in the healing process. After a second operation to stabilize my fibula by adding a second plate and a bunch more screws, I thought I was on the mend.
A week later I was an ER intake with a severe blood clot running hip to ankle.
Home again now and this is first day I am feeling a bit better.

If you ever have an injury that seems not to be healing as well as you expect, get it fully examined fast.
Blood clots or infections can kill.

We had to cancel our camping trip end of July.
I hope we can go on second planned trip in September.
Hoping by the end of the week, I can take a few steps without a walker.
Taking heavy doses of Eloquis, dangerous and expensive stuff. I need to discuss with my doctor about switching to Cumiden, and bring quick clot kit along for the trip, Incase I need first aid.
Yuck!

Sorry to hear about your setback. Maybe the camping trip is something that you can look forward to doing next year?

I'd think hard about the coumadin. Because of a plastic heart valve I take it. They usually don't make an exact dosage you'll need. I need about 4.15mg. However the closest I can get to that is 4.25 (1/2 a 2.5 and a 3mg pill). So unless you fall into a good solid number its a see/saw match that can change by a few too many salads.

With coumadin comes weekly blood tests until it gets stabilized, then monthly. Then if it gets one .digit above or below you are back to weekly then biweekly then monthly.

They do have a INR home unit, I used it for a few years until a month ago. It requires you do it weekly. It was costing me about $280 a month to use it. That's because of my insurance and deductible. I am now going to the dr for testing and back to a monthly visit.

I got rid of the INR machine as I will be retiring soon and will of course have more time on my hands to invest in that. It's about an hour and a half round trip to get it done.

Be prepared for lots of bruising. I bruise at about anything, seriously. I think I got bruising from a sneezing fit (allergies) I got a few weeks ago.

Also be sure to check any herbs, supplements and additional meds you take for counteractions to coumadin. Luckily there are lots of studies done about stuff that makes your numbers go up or down (aka more testing...). I miss ibuprofen... I used to take that for muscle aches, but no more. Not unless its an extreme issue (tired my back out pretty bad a month or so ago) or you'll be testing more regularly to get it back to normal.

Hopefully if you do go to coumadin it will be a better road for you.

Slept 21 hours of the last 24, getting a bit better each day now. This week I hope to take first steps without a walker. I still have 6 weeks to the trip.
If anyone is feeling sorry for themselves, give this a watch.

Clot is showing first signs of subsiding. Yeah! Darn, that thing hurts.
Supposedly I can get back on two baby aspirin a day after 3 months.
I also have a PFO in my heart.
I had a stroke back in 2019, and two TIAs in 2022. Hopefully I am all fixed now.
Stepson cutting firewood. Sure wish I could help. Tractors, truck and Subaru really need oil change. I hate what I did to myself.
