If I spend too much time thinking about what could go wrong, I go in the house and sit and watch the TV. Then a commercial comes on that says live an active lifestyle for good heart health. Even the recliner and TV will kill you.

Just do your best at making good moves.
I have ran over to my tractor to stop it. I'm too old to run and too old to get hurt.
Let the tractor roll

These "accident reports" fascinate me.
Glad to read mike69940 is recovering for the next one.
It's occurrences like this that slow me down. I'll go to do something I did 20 years ago then think twice "what may go wrong".
Somebody should make a compilation of all the whoops we do.
"Recovering for the next one" . Gee thanks.

Yep... and hate the unnerving after-the-act or mid-act thought of how badly this could go / could have went. I shudder sometimes, but the "what may go wrong" pre-thoughts are getting better with age.

Glad to hear you are on the mend @mike69440 . That's quite a nuts & bolts collection!
My dad was a volunteer firefighter for a couple decades. One of his favorite phrases was/is "How could this incident have been prevented..."

I've said it to myself quite a few times before doing something that could get me explaining the situation to the person in a white coat with a clipboard :D

I had more hardware installed yesterday to stabilize the tibia yesterday. The bones were not healing properly and calf was wobbly and would have set so I would have been bowlegged.
I heard a gruesome story at the hospital that involved a zero turn mower (ZTM). Mower fell into a gulley cutting deep grass. Rider did not survive. Yuck.

Holy cow! Looks like someone got a new nail gun for their birthday. 😲
I hope it heals properly for you.

I just found this thread and read through all of the comments.

I'm happy to hear your recovering and it wasn't any worse. It sure could of been!!!!

Thanks for posting what happened and updating us on your recovery.

I've had too many close calls and this makes me think of all those farm accidents that happen every year. I read somewhere that farming is the most dangerous thing you can do!!!

I have never been impressed with the brakes on tractors, let alone the parking brakes. When retrieving firewood on VERY steep wooded area last year, I learned to appreciate the 4 wheel parking brake on the Toolcat. It always stays where you park it.

I hope the OP gets healed.

I fortunately don't have to deal with really steep slopes on my property but if I did there would be a pair of wheel chocks staying with the tractor. We all are used to cars and light trucks, most of which are equipped with an automatic transmission with a decent parking pawl in addition to fairly functional parking brakes, and expect tractors to behave the same way when parked.

Real wheel chocks are inexpensive and far better and more convenient than bricks, 2x4, and other "make do" chocks. I use mine frequently with my vehicles, utility trailer, and tractors when doing service work.

My philosphy is.. if it starts to get away, let it go as it's insured anyway.
