I personally have not known ANYONE who contracted covid until Thanksgiving, since then I now know 9 people who have tested positive.

When I was working, there were times we would have 9 people off sick for flu on many given days!
I'm up to 4 people confirmed today. My sister in law got it a while back. My daughter in laws friend who gave our grandkids a ride to the dentist on Monday, was confirmed to have covid on Wednesday. They are self quarantined and watching to see if they develop symptoms.

Then out walking my dog today, I saw my neighbor sitting at his picnic table looking rough, head in his hands, while his kids were running around the yard. Got to talking to him like we usually do. Me in the street about 40ft from where he's sitting.

He confirmed that both he and his wife both have it. He's drained, his wife is stuck in bed. He figured his 3 kids have it as well but aren't showing any symptoms. His kids are 14 months, 3yo, and 5yo.

Several months ago my Mom was having trouble breathing and an ambulance was called and she went to the Heart Hospital. They would not let us in. They did call us at mid-night and told us they were transferring her to the covid floor of another hospital EVEN THOUGH SHE TESTED NEGATIVE, they called it a false negative because she had a few of the symptoms. It wasn't until she spent three days in the covid unit and tested negative twice more that they took her off the covid floor. That experience led me to be skeptical of the numbers associated with covid. The Dr. stated that a lot of people can test negative up to three times . . . . What! So even though people test negative they are calling them false negatives and diagnosing them with covid.

The biggest flaw of comparing Covid with flu is that while the latter is present throughout the population; Covid isn't yet. One estimate I've seen is around 30% of the population will be exposed by the end of this year. It's been said right from the beginning that we won't prevent it spreading; rather, the plan was to slow the spread to give medical professionals time to prepare. That's why the country was shut down almost a year ago, and things may have gone a lot better if we had let the health care professionals do their job, rather than turning it over to politicians.

My SIL died unexpectedly this past summer. She went to the Dr with difficulty breathing, was rushed to the hospital and died that night. In that short time they had determined that she did not have Covid. My brother requested and autopsy, because she went so quickly; and the cause of death was listed as congestive heart failure.

Hey, did you hear about the guy that fell out of his 30 ft. deer stand. He shot himself when he hit the ground and also broke his neck when he hit the ground. He tested positive for Corona and it was ruled death caused by Covid. And if you believe that I've got some ocean front property in Indiana for sale.

Our county is now at 20% who have had it, not just exposed.
figured by taking the population of the county and the total number of recovered, existing and deaths from covid in the county.

So far this year in the U.S. there have been about 22,000 flue deaths
Estimated Influenza Illnesses, Medical visits, Hospitalizations, and Deaths in the United States 219?2 Influenza Season | CDC

In the U.S. we got 22,000 flu deaths VS 329,000 COVID deaths so far this year. That's only 15 times more deaths, so, yep it's just like the flu. You just keep telling yourself that. And keep spreading that false information because it does everyone so much good to know your truth VS the facts from the CDC.

Why do people keep saying that it's just like the flu? It's not, and you look foolish saying it is.

Careful... Once you make a stand for science, facts, and the truth you will be labeled.

Duh, they tested negative then get tossed in with covid patients. Then test positive on the third test because........ oh yeah, some tater head put them in with someone infected with covid.

That crap just p*ss3s me off. And I would completely lose my sh*t with a hospital if they did that to one of my family members.

I can understand the need for isolation to confirm. But don't put that person under the care of people that are caring for the infected. That defeats the purpose of isolation.

I am often one of the first to be guilty of thread drift but we have a member here who is sharing his personal experience with this virus.

I think this is not an appropriate thread to express personal opinions on the seriousness (or lack thereof) that Covid presents. JMHO

Exactly. Although there is a grey area there and really depends on state laws. If the nursing home sends them to the hospital for treatment, they are technically supposed to take them back.

There are exceptions, but those are usually limited to the ability to provide care. For example behavior issues may require a psych ward or lock down unit, or the patient requires something medical thats out of the scope of what the facility can provide.

Another exception is if the patient was actually discharged from the nursing facility to the hospital. Then the nursing facility is not required to take the patient back. But certain requirements need to be met for a discharge.

My wifes nursing home will except current patients back from the hospital if they are infected and were sent out for treatment. They also take care of their patients that contracted covid.

Any new patients are automatically isolated till they test negative twice for the virus. But they aren't taken care of by the nurses that are taken care of the covid patients.

Hang in there Eddie & Mrs. Eddie.

Hope you get well Eddy. Nothing to mess around with. Goes without saying take care of you and your wife first, worry about everything else afterwards.

I was pretty much COVID free without knowing anyone personally who came down with it until this past week.

Wifes uncle, at 89 came up with it 3 days ago. He's in the hospital and we're getting updates from his daughter in Maryland. Woman from our church got it like 5 days ago, and apparently it's hit her hard in the hospital with her being on a respirator (she's in her 50's).

I just learned that our 31 year old grandson was diagnosed with covid yesterday. I knew that some of his coworkers had it, and he, his wife, and 2 little ones were here for an early Christmas a week ago.

Holding my breath waiting for the all clear from you Mr. Bird!

And Moss, I would venture a guess very few people on this forum has ANY trust for WAPO!

You'd be guessing wrong. While WaPo definitely has a left bias in their opinion pieces, and they definitely hate Trump, they actually rate very highly for factual reporting in their news articles.

That is a common problem now....knowing the difference between opinion and news.

.. there is the American mentality of not learning from past mistakes.....

We're still learning from 2020 .. "or are we". Among our freedoms is selective belief. A 'bias' can only spin things so far off-center from the facts.

Eddie & Karen, I hope you find some entertainment in our banter. My fear is that you might lose patience with not 'being just you' yet as this drags on.

It could be over-working (I guess it wouldn't take much :() or guilt from high-hoping that speedy recovery we wish for you both. There are many stresses. Any of them can delay recovery.

Eddie, I pray you can be chill and be strong for Karen until you're both back on your feet. I wish I could do more somehow. :) jon

Definitely. Editorial opinion VS news facts.

I worked at a newspaper for 30 years. We were consistently ranked as a neutral paper, right down the middle of the road. They were very good about that.
