I'd look for the subject of "Public Health" to get a serious revisitation in the coming days, months, and years.

Probably long overdue.

Yep...the encampments thrive when public health/sanitation loosened...

So far this year in the U.S. there have been about 22,000 flue deaths
Estimated Influenza Illnesses, Medical visits, Hospitalizations, and Deaths in the United States — 219–2;) Influenza Season | CDC

In the U.S. we got 22,000 flu deaths VS 329,000 COVID deaths so far this year. That's only 15 times more deaths, so, yep it's just like the flu. You just keep telling yourself that. And keep spreading that false information because it does everyone so much good to know your truth VS the facts from the CDC.

Why do people keep saying that it's just like the flu? It's not, and you look foolish saying it is.

The university cited higher fatalities to undergrads from flu than Covid but I can't find the source...

Maybe someone can comment?

In some ways it does seem those with advancing years have more problems with Covid but it could be because many seniors have flu shots?

I just go to work and home to take care of mom... only deviation is weekly 6am grocery stop.

A tennant clogged the upper sewer lateral causing sewage to run down the sidewalk... City gave me immediate notice as owner.

Could not get anyone out for love or money including all the Angie's List and Diamond Certified and Yellow Pages.. the few that did respond said the no longer offer this service...

So I got out my cable machine and cleared it...

Wanted to check inside plumbing and tenant refused entry saying I would need to have a clear COVID test.

She is the one that called the city after I told her I was still trying to find a rooter company...

You can't make this stuff up... not to mention non payment of rent is no longer grounds for eviction.

I sent it out today to illustrate how false the statement is that flu kills just as many. It was false in May and now it's 10X false in December.

Last year about 34,000 people died of flu in the U.S.
Estimated Influenza Illnesses, Medical visits, Hospitalizations, and Deaths in the United States 218?19 influenza season | CDC

This year, 329,000+ died of COVID in the U.S.
CDC COVID Data Tracker

I dont agree that all 329,000 died from Covid. I think all 329,000 died from either Covid alone, or a disease that killed them while they were Covid positive. Could be 50,000 or it could be 250,000.
They have to stop saying everyone that died WITH the Covid virus died FROM the Covid virus.

They symptoms are very similar, though.

Medically, I've been told there are financial benefits for hospitals when death is COVID related...

That said ICU here are full in many areas and taking a toll on medical staff...

One front line Doc lost it when many of his critical patients traced back to Thanksgiving...

Thats why I am suspicious of the 329,000. This virus is a bank account stuffing boondoggle for hospitals.
Look at what businesses are allowed to remain open, the huge big box stores. Football being played by the big college programs and NFL....MONEY!
The other thing is that we are an unhealthy society. Lots of obesity and diabetes. That contributes to the aforementioned loading of hospitals, too. Covid hospitalizes the obese and diabetic.

My father had multiple myeloma, a blood cancer.
He then developed amyloidosis which built up proteins in his organs and stopped them from functioning.
He then developed congestive heart failure because those organs couldn't clear fluid from his lungs.
He died.

Official cause of death was congestive heart failure.

The cancer killed him. We all know that. He wouldn't have had the other conditions were it not for the cancer.

The point I'm trying to make is this:

COVID causes people to develop symptoms. Some of those symptoms kill them. We all know that they wouldn't have had heart failure, lung damage, pneumonia, etc... if they wouldn't have caught COVID in the first place.

I don't mean to label people as deniers for saying the numbers aren't correct, but man, it's pretty obvious COVID is causing these deaths.

My nieces hospital declared a accident fatality as a Covid fatality.
So yeah, I ain’t buying the 329,000. Theres too much money for the hospitals to make.
I DO agree it’s worse than the flu, but it will be under control and hopefully the cause of Covid death policies will be changed to a more realistic, less profit motivated level.

OK, but what about when they go in to the hospital, due to a car crash and found to be positive for covid and then dies due to injuries fro the crash, and then listed as a covid death?

I has been proven to have happened last summer......

If it happened once, how many others are incorrectly listed?

Another thing I got to thinking about...

In my entire life, almost 60 years old now, I can only think of 2 people that I knew that died of influenza. Both were distant relatives, but I'd met them once or twice. I also remember 2 more that were hospitalized due to influenza, and recovered and came home quickly. I've had the flu 3-4 times in my life, as have almost everyone else that I know that is my age. Once I required IVs as it dehydrated me, but I was never admitted. Yet none of us died. Looking back on it, I seem to know maybe 1-2 people per year that get the flu and recover quickly with no lingering effects.

In the past 3 months, 29 people that I know personally have had COVID. Most had mild symptoms like that stuffy head fuzzy feeling Eddie has been talking about. All had fatigue. About a dozen had low fevers for several days. 3 were bed ridden for 2 weeks but never went to the hospital. 4 others were hospitalized for a week to 10 days before coming home. 2 others were hospitalized and died there. 2 have lingering symptoms for over a month.

I've never seen a flu rip through a family or business like this COVID can do.

The only thing in my life that even comes close is a norovirus event at my father's funeral 25 years ago. In that event, we were all touching, hugging, crying, etc... which we don't do now with COVID, yet we still catch it just through the air.

It's highly contagious, spreads mostly through the air from water droplets in people's breath. Wearing a mask helps keep you from unknowingly spreading it to others through your breathing by slowing the velocity of your breath so the water droplets in your breath don't travel as far from your face as it would with no mask.

This is pretty simple stuff to understand folks.

   / I got the Covid #252
Why no mask wearing in the past during flu seasons? The flu is obviously deadly, spread in same way, and has no real cure. The flu vaccine will be less effective than the corona vaccine. I hear flu vaccine ~70% effective and Corona vaccine ~95% effective.
If Corona necessitated mask wearing (and it should), one would think we will be in masks for flu seasons from here on out, too.
The flu vaccine is actually less effective then advertised. It's 70 percent effective for the strain it was intended for. But you can still get infected with one of the other strains.

I do not think many people are arguing these points, the argument is " are the covid numbers accurate"?

I believe the answer is NO

Based on the numbers of people that I know personally, there's 15 times more people that got COVID than got the flu this year. Based on that, I think the COVID numbers the CDC are reporting are pretty accurate.

I bet theyre not. Sad indictment on our society, but theres too much money in Covid.
That doesnt mean the CDC is doing something wrong, but I believe the numbers theyre being given from the front lines, like hospitals, have some deaths that were heart attacks, accidents, etc and theyre being reported to CDC as Covid.

Well since we have had a vaccine for flu, I would hope so

Also the conversation was regarding the covid death rate.....

Very well said!

I know 3 folks that had it!

One passed, she had other ailments + age.

The others had those mild symptoms often described. Both OK today.
For that matter I might have also had it (not checked for Covid) as I went to my clinic with respiratory problems (I'm COPD) and the meds OK'd me.
That was 7 mths back. (so I'm OK), so far!

So far since COVID I've noticed a lot more people out walking.

At work I've gone from 3,000 steps to 18,000 and most on the 32,000 square feet main floor and two acre adjacent parking area...

I have no idea how accurate these Step Counters are but it's been a 5 fold increase in walking during my typical 8 hour shift.

I personally have not known ANYONE who contracted covid until Thanksgiving, since then I now know 9 people who have tested positive.

When I was working, there were times we would have 9 people off sick for flu on many given days!
