Boomer 37
I needed to grind some stumps the other day so I hooked up my woodland mills grinder that had not been used in over a year and went to town. Well, I didn't bother to check the slip clutch {never crossed my mind} and now I think I broke something expensive.

Half way into the 4th stump the pto stopped turning and a grinding sound from the tractor started. I've obviously broken something in the transmission. It's a 2016 Boomer 37 hydro. Anyone have any experience with a problem like this? Or know of someone in the midlands of SC that could work on it? Or am I better off buying a new tractor?☹️

At least have it diagnosed first. There's a good dealer in Florence - Altman Tractor. They may have locations elsewhere like Columbia or Bishopville.

Definitely have it diagnosed first.

Best case scenario, it just broke the teeth in the PTO gears, which the smaller one is about $106 and the bigger gear is about $100. Will still need to more smaller parts here and there, probably bearings, seals, etc.

This is why I like to recommend shear bolts instead of slip clutches on implements with sporadic use, as the discs will rust together and not offer the protection it should. A shear bolt will always work, while slip clutches require maintenance before use.

I would qualify that to using a proper shear bolt yoke.

not one of these;

And there is nothing saying that a shear bolt yoke can not be used with a slip clutch.

Thank you for the suggestions. I'm thinking I may need a bigger tractor/skid steer as I have 20 undeveloped acres that I'm trying to slowly tame and build on in a few months. I've been pushing the Boomer a little hard. I will give Altman Tractor a call Monday.
