Hydrostatic problem?

Hiya Daryl, that's a great suggestion - I am definitely going to add a nice hot cup of coffee to my warm-up routine - after which I'll go start up the tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

RaT - excellent point about using synthetics in cold weather! I have a strong hunch that UDT was being used, not SUDT? I have always run SUDT year-round, but might switch to Amsoil at the next change. My dealer actually tried to sell me Amalie All-trac and tell me "it's just as good as Super UDT". Riiigghhhhhhttttt.

I've said it before, to the point of being annoying I'm sure, that the colder the weather, the more it makes sense to have synthetics in your stuff. Obviously, just my opinion.

Tim, I hope you don't mind my asking which fluid you had in there, and how cold it was on that fateful day? (And what fluid is in it now, come to think of it). Thanks, and again, I'm really sorry you had to go through that -

I just picked up some Super UDT from the dealer, he said in the grand L HST's that is all you want to run... Sounds like a good choice to me. Lots more expensive though, but much cheaper than a new hydro...

ALONG WITH SOME OF THE OTHER POSTS, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE WHT WAS DEFECT IN HST. ALSO, WAS YOUR AREA SERVICE REP. CONTACTED FOR ASSISTANCE WITH A POLICY CLAIM. IN 15 YEARS AS KUBOTA SERVICEMAN I HAVE ONLY SEEN FAILURES IN THE T-1400 HST'S.

FORGOT TO ADD, BUT THE KUBOTA SUPER UDT OIL IS A SYNTHETIC.

I've also been a victim of a fail HST (450hrs), on a BX22.
At the 50hrs, I had my local dealer change fluid, but I suppect it was only UDT & not SUDT that was put in.
The warning sign, was on the fluid change at 300Hrs & I had posted pictures at the time (screen had alot metal shaving)
The true failure sign came when I was in reverse and let go the pedal, tractor would vibrate.
I'm please to say that Kubota covered it under the warranty, it was cavitation on the HST piston/valve/pump.

Stick to SUDT & the take your ...warm up time. There should be no end to the Kubota.

Now, that was good to get it off my chest...this TBN is like a therapy... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My old B6100 HST has 2260 hours on it, and I believe there never has been Super UDT in it. I don't warm it much for snow removal, I just don't ask much of it till it's warmed up.
Which makes me ask the question: do the newer tractors require SUDT? Will they fail without it? UDT worked for hours/years before, now it seems to be a low grade of oil.

I honestly am not asking this question to sound like a smarta**, but since I own an older Kubota, I don't know about the newer ones.

I have a 2004 BX 23. The UDT versus SUDT is quite a controversy. My local Kubota dealer is probably the biggest Kubota dealer in Ca. I have asked the question on which of the two I should be using at least 10 times to different Mechanics, salemen and reps. My dealer does not even sell SUDT because they say it is to costly and not needed for proper operation. I am also told it is OK to mix UDT and SUDT. What do you guys think?

You must be talking about Pioneer Equipment! I have an '04 BX23 too (490 hrs) and always use SUDT and have only found it stocked by the nice folks at Hanford Equip. From what I learned on TBN it's just as important to use SUDT in our high heat environment as it is in the extreme cold.
Cheers!

Treb -

My best advice: when in doubt, use the good stuff.

Are these same guys who are telling you that you don't need to use SUDT offering to pay for a new hydro when yours blows up out of warranty? If so, take their advice. If not, ignore it.

My dealer (one of the largest Kubota dealers in the state) doesn't even carry UDT, much less SUDT. Nor does he go on the internet, and is therefore unaware of the real-life experiences of the thousands of tractor owners on this site and others.

When I read that a low-hours Kubota hydro blows up in cold weather using UDT, it makes me tend to think that the superior cold-weather characteristics of a synthetic oil might have made a difference. I am not going to take any unnecessary chances with my machine.

As for: can you mix UDT and SUDT? I'm sure you can, just as you could mix Pabst Blue Ribbon with Guinness. I choose not to do either.

I don't blame you there, CT. I would hate to ruin a good PBR.
