Drained Hydraulic fluid in my 2240 today . Kinda dark Grey looking, pulled pre-screen very clogged up, Little Brown like material on screen.fluid on screen was very gummy.

Would you flush the system with cheaper fluid first

Ditto I didn't comprehend "straight back from shifters"

Sounds like either low hydraulic fluid, fluid with too high of a viscosity, an air leak in the suction hose, or clogged up hydraulic suction filters. My bet would be on the last two. Are you seeing any fluid dripping when the tractor is not running? How many suction filters does that closed center system have?

Thank you the pre-screen was very clogged up in my 2240. Cleaned screen, changed fluid & filter noise gone thanks for your help.
