I forgot to mention the pulling speed. It was acceptable. I will try to get an accurate measurement at some point, but would say it was very similar to my previous calculations earlier in the thread. High gear was around walking speed. Low gear was slow of course.

I was not impressed with how the cable spooled under load. Even some straight on pulling the cable wanted to pile up. The slightest angle made it much worse. Is there some trick to this? Would synthetic rope do better?
I generally either steer the vehicle with the winch to help with spooling the cable in evenly, or pull on it by hand.

There are winders available, but I've never used one and don't know how effective they are.
