I just changed the oil in a YM 1500 -

It did not have the spring in the assembly

See diagram:
HYDRAULIC_SYSTEM: Yanmar Tractor Parts

Mine did not have part #29 in it.

Quesiton:

Did they make some 1500's that did not have a spring here?

It did not seem to have room for a spring, the filter fit tight in the housing.

BUT... I just put it back the way it came out, did not pay to much attention to it, until I started looking at parts diagrams tonight.

Thanks in advance.

The spring is inside the filter.

Ok, there was no spring inside the filter when i took the filter out.

when you clean the filter, does the spring stay inside the housing?

Thanks.

I have taken some out that did not have a spring. They just had a perforated metal tube inside of the screen. Maybe a design change at some point?

The problem is that I really don't want to replace the trans fluid to check the screan - I know I put it back the way it came out, and it fit tight in the housing.

Any comments?...

Based on Aaron's comments it seems to me that the purpose of the spring/perforated tube is only to keep the screen from collapsing. Therefore, if your screen was not a floppy limp blob, that is that it held its shape, and the screen fit well in the housing then everything is fine. You are good to go.
