I've got a Yanmar compact loader backhoe, a CBL 40. Has 430 hours on it. The steering is failing....turn the wheel but its moving very little, worse one direction than the other. Came about gradually. I've put some heavy loads on this tractor. I'm guessing I need to rebuild the steering cylinder but wanted to seek advice or troubleshooting tips beforehand. Are ther other possible causes? Everything else on tractor works fine.

If you raise the front wheels off the ground do they steer correctly?

First thought is the seals in the steering cylinder leaking. Depending on how bad they are will they turn if you physically push on the front tires with them raised ? If they turn then I would definitely suspect bad seals on the cylinder
