I noticed that my hydraulic oil is clear on the dipstick.Back in the day we used to add a little red trans fluid to the hyd fluid to give it color for easy checking.Does anybody know if i can still do this ? I called the dealer today,he said he didn't know,it might void the warrenty. Is there anytrhing in the trans fluid that could eat the lining of the hoses or orings

ATF is used in a good many hyd systems. I doubt it will hurt anything. Watch out for the warranty catch 22.

ATF is a little more than just red dye in hydraulic fluid, but there is nothing in ATF that would harm a hydraulic system.

We tend not to use ATF because it is more hydrophilic than straight hydraulic fluid and that can be a major issue in our industry.

John Deere sells red dye for a decent price:

I just used this dye to tint up so low viscosity HyGuard for my 318. It took about 3 drops to tint up 1.75 gallons, two probably would have worked just fine. There's not much in the jar, but you don't need much. Use a small eye dropper to control how much you add. Start small.

Got the part number from kennyd, had my JD dealer order it.
