I keep my tractor in the garage which is about 60 degees at all times from the wood furnace . The temp. was about 5 above and windy when I took the tractor outside so I let it warm up for about 5 more min. before heading to the wood pile to bring in some already cut and dry wood.It took me about 5 or 10 min. to load up the bucket so I kept the tractor running and than I got out onto a long flat driveway so I decided to put in high range first gear as I was a little cold but the tractor wouldn't move .I put it back in low range high gear and it was fine.Is this common for this type of clutch on a very cold day? I realize the fluid must have gotten very cold just idleing for those few minutes but I was surprised none the less. The tractor is a Kubota 5700 with about 70 hrs and all new dealer recommended kubota fluid, new filters etc.at 50 hrs.

Try and see if it works now it sounds that the range selector or the gears may not have engaged all the way . This has happend to me before on my NH and fords.

I doubt it was your clutch. I haven't used a 5700 but am familiar with several other models and they have mechanical clutch linkages. You may have had cold fluids in your transmission - warming the engine won't really warm up your transmission or transaxle. You have to work those to get the fluids warm.

One of the M6800s at work has a pretty wonky gear selector for high / low and will often fail to completely engage, even though the lever is in the right position. I'd guess that is what was going on.

If it has a live pto.. the countershaft will be turning in the tranny even with it in neutral..

You are right Soundguy but at a pretty slow speed at idle and it was very cold with the wind and all plus having a heavy bucket full of wood it just wouldn't go,maybe it didn't engage all the way in.Next time I take it out I will try the high range right out of the warm garage to see if it works okay then.
Thanks,
