Well as the subject line says . I'd like to pass along my opinions on the Husvarna 2148. So far it's been a great mower . Mind you , It isn't in the same league as the JD LX 280 I really wanted . But for the price (around 1800 bucks ) it does a very fine job of mowing . And that's all I'll ask it to do .... Mow . It came with a 10 guage deck and B+s 21 hp engine . The 4 gallon tank and large fuel fill are really nice to have .I kind of look at it as a compromise between the budget mowers and the higher priced mowing machines .
It has plenty of power to get through the taller grass without bogging . The deck and blades seem fairly substantial .
My only complaint to date is that it's a bit light for mowing some of my off camber hills . But wheel weights should solve that problem . Overall I consinder it a decent mower at a decent price . John

Can you post a photo of it? I'll be looking to get a new LT/GT for next year pretty soon and haven't seen any. Thanks in advance. G

Thanks Slam. My neighbor just bought one (can tell by the color) but I'm not sure of the model. I'll have to stop by and check his out. Thanks again. G

Slam,

Forgot to ask you what your opinion is on the Husqvarna?

Get a Belly Mower Man! I'd love to put one on mine, but my yard is too soft, too many trees, and too many $$ for the mower. But I get a big grin when I see them on CUTS - it's like "Super Sized" at McDonalds... a cut with a MMM looks like a very overgrown GT.

Once I get grass in the new areas my lawn will be up to about 4 or 5 acres... then I'll reconsider and see if it looks like it's worth it.

My opinion is that the larger units (like the 2148) are decent machines at a good price. I would expect 10 years service from one if you keep it greased, keep the oil changed, and keep the air filter clean. Service on these mid grade units is a must.

I service my equipment all the time so that would be easy for me to do.
Time to upgrade is coming soon if all goes well. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif G

I bought a new 2148 a few months ago and have about 25 hours on the engine so far. Everything is great except I have been experiencing some power issues and was hoping someone out there might know what is wrong. Every now and then, the engine will idle a little noisy and engaging the blades does not go smoothly. It is as though the engine does not have enough power to handle the extra load. I immediately disengage and wait for the idle to get just a bit smoother (which is a noticeable change when it occurs). Unfortunately, I waited a long while today and the idle did not get smoother. I just changed the oil a second time because it was dirty already. Any ideas? Thanks!

Maybe I read the post a bit wrong . But are you engaging the PTO at idle ?? Mine won't even think about it !
If I misread this ( very likely ) , Check for water , or other contaminents in your fuel . A good place to start is with the fuel filter ,as it's readily accesible on the right hand side of the machine . Another possibility to look at is stale fuel . Hope this is a least of some help .
BTW welcome to TBN ! John

Thanks for the feedback. The guy at the store also suspected a fuel issue, such as moisture. He also recommended using higher-octane (the manual says use 87, so that's what has been going in it). You might be right about the fuel filter. The schedule says I don't have to change it yet, but it was also too conservative on the oil change interval. I cut a couple acres once a week and that seems to dirty up the oil. Do you think dry gas would cut down on the moisture in the tank?

To be honest I don't have much experience with Dry Gas .
But if you suspect water , MR Funnel does the trick to get it out of your fuel . Just make sure You use it BEFORE you treat your fuel . As an over winter additive I'd go with Sta-bil .
It doesn't do a thing for water , etc . But it'll keep the fuel fresh in your mower and fuel cans over the winter .

I know this isn't a very timely response to your question, but I thought I send along this information. I recently purchased a YTH 2248. Same unit as yours, but with a 22hp kohler engine. I was having trouble keeping it running when I engaged the mower blades, and I have noticed a decrease in available power since I first used it (I only have about 10 hours on it). It appears my problem has been wet grass building up under the mower deck. We've had a very wet summer in upstate NY and almost all my mowing has been performed on slightly long, slightly wet grass. I've noticed that occasionally my mower ejection shoot would cough out a chuck of green wet mush. So I reached underneath this weekend and pulled out a large volume of caked up dry (old) and wet (new) grass build-up. My power loss and blade engagement problems were immediately resolved.

I don't know if this will be of benefit to you, but I thought I send it along. Good Luck, Paul

Thanks everyone for your help. The service guy just paid me a visit and found that my right cylinder was not firing, I was running with only the left one! No wonder the engine had a bad time when trying to work the blades. The spark plug was good but the coil has to be replaced. He will be back next week with the new part.
