Pushing snow (even 8"of wet snow) with my CK20 has not been a problem. I usually use high gear and then wonder why I can't push into the mound of snow that I collected at the end of the drive, switch to low and then push it off to the side. I have been using a 5' box blade until it overflows with dirt without a problem.

They are good little tractor. It has done everything that I expected to do and then some. I even have a kubota fan impressed at what it will do.

John, I was not referring to the CK20 hst issue I'm aware kioti took care of the very few that had problems. Go back a bit in owning operating check out Kevin and Steve's post, they had problems with their tractors, either clearing snow or with small driveway incline. What happened? Was it mechanical or lack of hst experience. I think when such problem arises it is important to read about a clear reason or solution that the problem was fixed. If not it could leave a bad impression not only on newbies but also on kioti. This does not help the company to grow well. cag

I agree. Don't be bashful. If you're not seeing a clear resolution please post a question to the specific thread asking if the issue has been resolved.

It was my impression kiotikevin's issue was resolved. It wasn't an issue with the tractor. Just an operational technique that was solved by throttling up the tractor.

I don't recollect any issues with Steve (Millers?) tractor?
Steve you out there?

Don my mistake it was not Steve but Snowseb post under ......What can a CK30hst do........ And is problem was solve my fault. I misread it. As for Kevin Hey the guy's tractor is probably ok and he simply forgot to mention it. Now I could go back in previous post to search if there was other unresolved issues maybe there is maybe there isn't that's beside the point. I think it's very important to resolve any problem that come up in a clear understanding fashion that the newbie can understand. Man why do you think I posted on HST..... I read so much negativity that I was left with the empression that it was not a reliable trany and you know I'm not the only newbie that feel's this way. I posted my issues with HST because of these concern and I would also like to had that my wife was very comfortable driving the CK30hst... cag

Hey guys,
I apologize for not doing a follow-up response on my stalling problem. I did up the rpms and it made a big difference in both loader operation and snow blower response. Maybe it is just a matter of getting used to the hst issue as opposed to shuttle shift. I just find it that the high rpms (2400-2500) a little annoying. My dealer said he was going to send down a mechanic to check the hst valve anyway. He says he will know by checking the pressure of it .

Kevin thank's for the reply. I have a question for you... do you operate in low medium or high when these problem occur. cag

Cag,

I can understand your concern with any Hydrostat "issues" that arise. (I use the word "issue" over the word "problem" because, a lot of the HST posts I read seem to be more easily resolved "issues" than serious "problems").

I think you'll find medium gear as the most common/popular all-around-range to work in. On the CK30HST you have three ranges to pick from (L-M-H.) Then you have a choice of two or four wheel drive. You also have another choice of throttling the engine up. It's a matter of experimenting with the wide range of choices to see what works best for you.

Once again,
Please do not hesitate to ask any and all questions. There are plenty of knowledgeable folks here willing to help. Ask away.

I operate mostly in Medium range can't do anything in High range and Low is too slow and I will let you know what the mechanic says when he checks the pressure on the hst.

Don - Your right, when things do not work the way they should then it is a problem. I guess we should deal with the issue before we can determine it is a problem.
There is certainly lots of room on here to deal with both because of all the good tractor folks we have here to contribute a few minutes of their valuable time each day to help. I know I'm thankful.

To expand on that thought a little...

High range is the upper speed range. High goes up to 13mph. High is used for road and travel. Getting from point A to point B in as short of time as possible.

Low is slow....

Yep, low is high torgue and slow go. Pushing into a compacted pile of dirt or heavy stone. Dragging a large tree stump. Yankin' a stuck vehicle out of the mud....

Then there's the rear differential lock for additional traction to the rear wheels.... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

To expand on Don's excellent summary of the ranges, you should also find that light duty applications that require PTO can also be done in HIGH range or MID range. For example, mowing the lawn does not require any ground engagement, it can easily be done in HIGH. Similarly, a task like using a Snow Blower requires the PTO but really doesn't put too much stress on anything else, it can typically be done in HIGH range. You can even operate a tiller in HIGH range without much trouble.

On the other end of the spectrum, as stated by Don, digging into a packed down dirt pile with the FEL or pulling a subsoiler is going to be easiest in LOW range.

In the middle will be mowing the lawn or snow blowing on hilly terrain. Also in the middle would be using the FEL on a loose dirt, mulch or rock pile. Climbing modest inclines is a good task for MID range. Other common tasks for MID range would include pulling a trailer (everything from a garden trailer to a fairly large boat).
