There is 3-4hp differance motor and PTO on these two tractors, is it a noticable differance when finish mowing and snow blowing? I know everyone says go bigger but its around 2500-3000 differance at the dealer I checked at.

The difference in PTO Hp doesn't sound like much but it is a gain of 15%. That's huge, and it was enough for me to spend the extra bucks for the 2720 because I need all the Hp I can get for my tiller and I may buy a 5' rotary cutter this summer.

It wasn't enough of a difference for me but I am not using the PTO HP for anything as I have a 46 hoe that stays on the tractor.

When you look at torque values it's more like a 20% gain. About 30% more qubic inches in the motor. There have been quite a few posters complain that the 2520 is underpowered in high range. Bogging down on driveway grades. I can plow snow in high with the 2720 no problem. And its about a $1500 price increase. Go to mutton power equipment they have them both priced on the tractorhouse site.

When I traded my old 2006 for the 2008 I have now, I looked into jumping to the 2720. For me it was $1500 trade for a left over 2008 2520 and $3000 trade for a 2009 2720. I dont mow with mine, only place the extra HP for me would be used for tilling. It just wasnt worth it for me. Everyones needs are different, if your doing a lot of PTO work, then yes the extra HP might be justifiable. If your getting the extra HP for loader work, or box scraper/blade work, then a 3320 might be a better choice. .

For snowblowing, tilling and mowing I think the extra power is worthwhile. When you consider the fact tha pto hp ratings are measured with the tractor parked and that you can't expect the tractor to move without using some amount of power then the residual power available for the pto can be quite a bit more than 15 or 20% as it appears in the ratings. While it won't be as apparent with tilling as it would be with mowing and moving at higher ground speeds it will make a difference. Working the machine on a hill for instance you may only have 10hp for the pto on one and 13.5 on the higher powered machine, that would be very noticeable.

Hiya,

I had a 2520 and never found it lacking for power for cutting or tilling. My opinion is that the 2520 has too much power for the weight of the chassis. In ground engaging work, (loader, ripping, plowing, grading etc..) the tractor would slip it's wheels far too easy. (and this was after I loaded the rears, put wheel weights on, added 3 suitcase weights on the front and a portland weight box with four 40 lb suitcase weights on top)

If your mainly going to cut or till and you want the extra PTO HP, then the 2720 may be a better choice however if your mainly going to be doing ground work, the 2520 will be more HP than you need in that chassis size.

If your planning on mainly ground work, you may want to look at the 3x20 chassis size. They weigh far more, have 3 ranges in the hydro, have much higher loader (300cx) and 3pt capacities and can put all the power to the ground with no wheel slip. After 4 years with my 2520 I went to a 3320 and haven't looked back.

My 2 cents,

Tom

I put 450 hours on my 2007 2520 and always thought it lacked power. I just went and bought a 2008 2720 and it has a ton more power. I have a hill my 2520 won't climb in Hi range without trying to stall at even higher rpm. This new 2720 will climb the same hill at just over idle and not bog or try to stall. The torque is really noticeable! It even sounds bigger!
I won't miss the 2520 bogging with my 62D in long wet grass and the rear tiller making it work so hard.

Amazing what more horsepower will do.. :D

5-6 HP is a big difference on these smaller tractors!
