howdy 8N ers

rewiring 51 8n w/12v alternator,12v battery using new 12gauge wire,connectors,fuses and fuse block new 12v ammeter and ignition key starter switch. Discovered a resistor in the wiring,will this resistor be required with a 12v fuse type electrical system?
