Hi
Don't want to hi-jack the thread but has anyone tried to renovate a driveway by ripping with box blade as suggested.....then mixing in cement powder and smoothing and compacting........I can get cement for about $20 a ton.......lot cheaper than crushed limestone..........any one tried this..........any comments?

A guy I hired to do some work on my driveway used a technique where he would pour out a bag of Portland and then use the bucket on his skid-steer to smooth and spread it over a washout area. He then wet it gently (so as not to wash it away) with a garden hose to get the reaction started and spread crusher run over it. I have heard that this method may be controversial, since it can create a slab of concrete for you or somebody else to hit with your blade or rake if you try to condition the driveway later. I don't have an opinion either way yet, but at first glance, it does seem like a pretty good tradeoff between a gravel drive and a full-on concrete drive.

There is an area of my driveway where I can see that a previous owner looks to have poured a bag of Quickcrete (not Portland) into a deep rut. Either that, or he mixed Portland with gravel, but it looks like Quickcrete to me. Anyway, what seems to be happening is that the water is just washing around that area and making a whole new rut, so I'm not sure I'd recommend that technique for filling in deep ruts, but it may be good for holding surface gravel in place.

Anybody else who has an opinion is welcome to chime in. Eventually, I'm going to have to do some more work on the driveway, and I'd like to be informed.
